best...

Best cell phone for riding and texting? I got the sidekick and I gotta use two hands to thumb type, so I gotta lean all the way over and stear with my elbows...not good. Anybody have a good recommendation? Blackberry? Treo?

Dumb. just ride-- please; both for your safety and those around you. I think I'd rather have drivers around me texting than bikers texting around drivers. What is so important that it can't wait until you can either pull off to the side of the road or get to your destination?

Yeah, hang the hell up and ride.

Q: What worse than a car driver with a cell phone?

A: OP :p

bluepython723 03-26-07 09:57 AM

what's the point of riding then? I mean I ride to exercise, and have fun. Have fun by observing everything, surely not hunched over struggling to balance, and TEXTING. Talking on the cell phone on a ride is bad enough. Bike riders aren't always on the right in my mind, it's dangerous for you and everyone else, don't do it.

Make out your will, buy a casket, and if you want a headstone, you shouldn't expect
your parents to get it for you.

If you can't ride no-handed, you're not going fast enough. You don't need a new cellphone... you just need to pedal harder. It also works better if you're in between lanes of traffic, where the road has less slope.

 :D

None. Do not use a cell phone while riding! If you must text & ride or use the cell phone & ride then stop & pull off the road before you do so.

Why did I respond to this when I get the feeling this is a troll post?

Could it be like looking at a train wreck? You don't want to, but can't help yourself. Me thinks so.

A cell phone doesn't have enough features, I recommend a laptop.

:roflmao: +1....with an external mouse so you can pwn in Counter-Strike while riding!

GreenGrasshoppr 03-26-07 01:09 PM

How about using a cellphone with a handsfree set?

Nermal 03-26-07 01:13 PM

Can't text while hands free, that's why.

I use that, the wired one that comes with most nokia phones. Its great. Answer with a little button and just talk, its like earphones, thats it. You can even listen to music (radio or mp3) and then ride, answer, talk, go back to listening, all with one button.

OP was txtting, he/she should just stop the frekin bike.

Blackberrys are pretty tough, I dropped mine last week when the antenna caught on my jersey pocket.

thebankman 03-26-07 01:43 PM

Go recumbent.

Retem 03-26-07 02:03 PM

texting kills the highest number of vehicle vs cyclists deaths are caused by people like you who text while driving or riding have fun there under that bus

Allen 03-26-07 03:31 PM

Mount a laptop directly to your handlebars. Email, music, video, and all your work applications embedded in the rear of that parked car you did not see.

turtle77 03-26-07 03:54 PM

Do troll villages even get cell phone reception?

will1047 03-26-07 04:02 PM

I definently agree with everyone else here. Please don't text while riding. Do it before or after you are done riding, and if it's that urgent then pull over to the side of the road and do it then. There's no point in trying to do it while your going down the road. You should be cycling to go out and get away from all that stuff and enjoy the ride and reflect not be wrapped up in texting others.

BTW: I like the idea of using one of the phones with MP3 so you can talk to people and listen to music at the same time.

mlts22 03-27-07 04:48 PM

A laptop is too small. I'd recommend hauling in a trailer a rack with an APC UPS and a number of 1-2U XServes with full raid arrays for your Internet stuff.

In any case, if you do text, be careful... people driving think they can get away with it because they have a lot of metal between them and the outside, but the only thing separating your innards from the road on a bicycle is your skin and skill level.
