Some bikes have a clamp which goes around the seat tube and the front D clamps onto that.
other bikes have a braze on, which means that the bracket is integrated onto the bike and the front D is screwed onto that...
although i might be crazy b/c brazing is a type of welding...

And rack mounts for the touring bikes. I once had a young bike mechanic call them lugs
. Lugged frames have the lugs brazed on too.
