road shoes

I have a pair of diadora mountain shoes, size 45. They fit but there is no more room at the toe. They are a little snug but not uncomfortable. I'm going to get a set of road shoes. Should they be as snug as my mountain shoes or should there be a little more room in the toe? thanks

There is no difference in how they SHOULD fit. Perhaps this is an opportunity to get a BETTER fit.

Not too snug. Not too loose.

When I picked up my new SIDI shoes I tried the sizes below, at, and above my regular size to ensure a perfect fit. It turned out the equivalent of my 10.5 american size shoes in metric was perfect.

You can also take your shoes to a cobbler and have them professionally stretched to get more room.

Cobblers still exist? To think I was amazed when I found a tailor in my town. If I could afford it I would have all my clothes tailored. Oh the luxury. :p

Something to keep in mind is that if you are basing the sizing on a standing position, your foot spreads a half size while bearing your weight. Its more accurate to size a cycling shoe while sitting as your foot isn't under enough pressure to "spread" much while riding.

My Diadora mountain shoes are the same size 39 as my road shoes and the Diadoras have less room in the toe. I think Diadoras just run small.
