Yesterday, 3 friends and I set out to do some trail maintenance. 2 hours later we return to find one guy's truck window broken out and some stuff stolen and another car parked in the area w/ a broken out window.:irritated Lame. Not even a bad area either.

Don't leave your stuff in plain view and keep an eye out for suspicous people when you park.

We were feeling pretty good about all the work we did until we got back.

Dang, I feel for you. Go do a good deed and get that. What a pain.

The last two years our local ski resort had problems with clouting (vehicle burglary). These guys were more sophisticated, they would slim-jim the doors take only the bankcards. You would never have known that you got hit until the credit card company contacts you. I try to leave nothing of value in the car, a sorry comment on American life.

That kinda crap burns my butt....

Around here, the favourite method of gaining illegal entry into a car is either with a brick, or a large rock. A friend of mine had a new car, which somebody tried to break into. Not having a brick handy, the thief picked up the largest rock he could find, and threw it at the car. He miseed, and missed again, and must've had the rock bounce off the glass several times before the window broke. The theif got a $25 cheapo walkman. The damage to the car was over $2000, and the deductible was $500. My friend now leaves his windows slightly opened, now.:mad:

DS has good advice. Never leave anything that may be of value in your automobile. People have been known to break into cars for items of great worth like:

Zippo Lighter
A single cassette tape
Fuzzy Dice
Bag of Doritos

I know, I did all the cases on these break-ins and the owners stated that these were the only items taken from their autos. Also, be aware that you are being watched. People who do break-ins are very likely watching to see if you move anything to the trunk or if you place anything of worth underneath the seats. I assure you, this was not some wandering bumbler but someone who does this on a regular basis. Be vigilant, don't give anyone the opportunity to make you a victim.

As for the karmic aspect - their turn will come. You may never see it, but the person that committed the act against you will have their evil turned against them tenfold. As for your question of the "I've done well, why has this happened to me?" the answer is simple. The two acts are not connected in any way. The return of your act of generosity will come at a later time.

Off on a tangent:My wife works for a major US retailer.The amount of theft is incredible.I'm not talking about just items you can stuff under your shirt,they take stuff you need a dolly to haul out.What are we a country of thieves?

Seriously, though, some crack-addled addict once broke into my car, crawled over $2000 of camera equipment, and stole <drumroll> $1.75 in change from the dash!!</drumroll>:rolleyes:
Yeah, well, I shoulda known better! Thankfully he didn't know a canon from a crapper.
I have noticed that "shiftless urban guys" ALWAYS come closer to look at my Cannondale than come to look at my Trek road bike. Why? It's the big white letters! To them, Cannondale means "dope for a week". The Trek is a nicer bike in ALL respects (has campy record and DuraAce components), but no stickers, hence, no interest.
I read a posting once from a guy who had put Huffy stickers on the downtube of his ride. Might work? Maybe if I wrap the tubes with friction tape......

Definite crappy way to end a good day! I'm with you this week. Finally got a new company car, after *****ing for two years about the old piece of !@#$%. Coudn't believe it, got a pretty nice ride, nice color tinted windows, yada, yada, 3rd week - some !@@#$% keyed the passenger side.

Momma always said I should wish no one any bad but, it didn't hurt to hope for the best. We can only hope the Karma does get around to the vandals and thieves.
