Safety Glasses
 

Being one that has oily skin, and sweats like a pig, I've always had trouble finding glasses that would stay up on my face. I ran across a link, here on BF, for safetyglasses.com, and decided to check them out. I found these Pyramex Z-teks that are large wrap around, and don't have the annoying frames, that obstruct your view when you're in the drops. I thought they looked pretty cool, and decided to give them a try. When I received them, I was pleasantly surprised! Not only did they look better than on their web-site, but I noticed that they have soft rubber temples. As soon as I put them on, I could feel the temples gripping the sides of my head. I rode with them for 32 miles, yesterday, and not once did they slip! They stayed plastered to my big head, for the whole duration of the ride. I ordered two pairs, one clear and one gray/gold mirror, for $13 including shipping. They were shipped Priority, and I received them in 3 days!

As far as the bike :eek: .......Uhhhh, No thanks! As for the Croakies, I've tried them and they don't work! They don't wrap snuggly enough around the back of your head to serve the purpose. The Z-tek glasses stay put, and cost less than a non-effective Croakie.

I wear prescription glasses with transition lenses. My only choice is a croakie, works great.

Do you wear a helmet? I ask not for the safety reason, though that is a good benefit, but because my helmet straps also help keep my glasses from sliding down my nose as well. The straps kind of comfortably hug the glasses to the side of my face/head. Myabe you could snug your helmet straps a bit to see if that helps, or if you don't wear a helmet, maybe start doing so to see if that will help, at the very least to help keep your glasses from sliding.

Have you ever tried riding a recumbent? If not then don't speak of something of which you know nothing about. Try it you may actually like it. Hell of a lot more comfortable then riding a wedgie & can be just as fast.

Sorry N_C, I honestly didn't mean to offend you. I thought you were having fun with me. My hats off to anyone riding a recumbent. Heck, I have a hard enough time balancing on a traditional bike :D :D
As for the helmet, I wouldn't dare ride without one. I have noticed that my straps tend to loosen during my rides, and I'm constantly having to tighten them. The helmet is a low end Schwinn model :rolleyes:
I'm going to upgrade to something more ventilated,soon and hopefully the straps will be more adaquate.

Au contraire, mon frere. I mean, not "au contraire" that a croakie works great -- probably true. But "au contraire" to the idea that that's your only choice. Following the link that BikeNC gave, I went on to another site that had a nice looking selection of prescription safety glasses, all available with a variety of lens options. (http://www.rx-safety.com/Index.htm). I'm intrigued by them, because some of them claim to be specially designed to deal with moisture and fogging -- I find my biggest problem isn't so much that my glasses slip off, but that I sweat so much that my lenses steam up.

try some shooting glasses ?
they have large lens that provide great protection,
they sit high on your face, but not so close to your
face that your eye lashes get squashed as happen with
some of the regular safety glasses (at least for me as i
have a fat head)- becuase they sit a little higher off
of your face, i think they vent a little better.
i've used a pair of B&L shooting glasses for about 25 yrs
saved my eyes from getting blasted with dust/dirt/debris.
Zeiss also makes great glasses.

I'm lucky to have no eye issues so all my hikin', bikin', runnin', messin' around glasses are Lowe's/Home Depot's safety glasses: shades and clear. Cheap, effective, and sufficiently "sporty" to pass muster in the athletic crowd. The best thing is that when they finally 'go south' or 'go missing', I'm not inconsolable.

I only use safety glasses. I can't justify spending $100+ on Oakleys when the safety glasses are attractive, comfortable and so cheap that I don't care if they get scratched. I use the Z-teks and Mini Magnums. I have a small face so I need the tiny glasses. They are so comfortable that I forget I am wearing glasses.

The dude just wanted some glasses and you go and tell him to buy a new bike. Lame. He got two pair for $13. How much to buy a recumbent to keep your glasses on?

If you haven't figured it out, yet, part of my response was satirical. The OP got it & there was no offense taken. But riding on a recumbent your glasses will not slode down because your head is up, not bent down or forward like on a wedgie.

Oh, I thought you were serious. Some recumbent riders do propose recumbents as a solution to minor inexpensive problems, so it wasn't totally out of whack to think you were serious. :)

I just know I am gonna offend some people here, but I have to say it... offence is not my intent... jst my thoughts.

But I cannot understand those who will pay around £100 for a pair of Oakleys when you can get glasses that have a far better spec and safety rating for around £5.00. I have always worn safety specs on my bike, and the ones I have now do not mist up, do not slip... and I can even change the lenses from clear to amber and again to smoked with UV 400 protection. In the UK in winter they use grit on icy roads, and sometimes it is thrown up by traffic... with safety lenses my eyes are protected into the deal as well. And with modern materials that can also look pretty damned cool as well.
