Spray the dog with HALT. Say nothing. Ride away.

I use pepper spray that is sold in gun stores....much more effective than halt.

My worst fear of dogs, dog on one side of path owner on the other side and leash in between. I would rather see the dogs running free - they seem to have more sense for avoiding danger than their owners. I see plenty of people walking their dogs by the Lachine canal in the mornings, and they have never given me any trouble.
