I'm a knucklehead
 

...But my bike shop isn't! I bought a new Raleigh C500 late December. I've been riding it 4-5 times a week and it developed a tick as the pedals turned. Thinking it needed a BB adjustment (and not wanting to buy the tool) I took it to the lbs where I purchased it to use up some of the free 1 year maintenance last Saturday. Finally picked it up today and the mechanic told me it was...... just a loose screw on a pedal! I felt like a knucklehead. But thanks to Evan at Bean's Bike in Paoli, PA.

Don't feel so bad. That's nothing compared to my mysterious click story. A few weeks back my bike suddenly developed a very annoying click every pedal revolution. I checked everything I could: pedals, cranks, bb, front derailleur adjustment. Nothing. Works perfect on the stand, but once I start riding it, the click reappears. Wanna guess what it was? Well, the weather warmed up a few weeks back, so I switched from boots (no laces) to sneakers (laces), and it was the ends of the laces on the left shoe hitting the bike as I was riding. ARGH!

Oh lord... similar happened to me. I had a really naff pair of over trousers for wet weather. One night I kept having this intermitent buzzing coming from the rear wheel. I suspected the wheel was loose on the axel and the tire was hitting the frame. I stopped a few times to check the wheel. When I got to work I spent most of the night checking it out (I have that kind of job)... riding home in the dry the noise had gone. Then going back later in the day in wet weather it was back again!

It was my overtrousers rubbing on the tire depending which direction the winds was coming from.

Trust me, I have better overtrousers now.

The magnet on my wheel had gotten turned so it clicked on the chainstay. EVERYBODY on the group ride asked me about that tick. Couldn't wait to get to the rest stop to fix it.

I had the same think happen to me too, with my clipless pedals...:(
