I don't see what's so funny...

about this bike! Granted, it is a step through frame and I am a male, but who cares? Since my "real" bike is in Georgia and I'm in Cincinnati until next week I'm just happy to have a bike to ride. Now, trusted forum members I would like you to be the judge...If you saw a 29 year old male going 20 mph down the street on this thing would you find it funny? Should I get rid of this bike and wait until I can find a "man's bike" to use as my grocery getter?

The best I can tell is that it's a mid 70's Schwinn collegiate 3spd with the original tires...and it rides great I'm definitely on the look out for more old schwinns

Any bike is better than no bike at all. If it was all I had, I'd ride it.

It is a Schwinn Collegiate most probably from the early 1980's rather than the 1970's because it has a Shimano 3-speed hub rather than a Sturmey Archer hub.

Still, it should be a nice, smooth, reliable ride. Put some side-saddle baskets or panniers on it and it will be a good shopping bike. It will be able to handle the load.

You will find that it has less rolling resistance than a mountain bike, but close to the same strength.

Enjoy it.

Well I would more than likely laugh if I saw you riding it.

That being said I would not think twice before riding it myself and would not be upset or surprised if you laughed at me nor would I care.
Ride it and be proud while laughing at yourself.

Why would I care in the first place? Why would you care what others think about your bike? If it works, then use it.

Nothing wrong with it. My wife's road bike is similar and I sometimes ride because it's convenient around town. Anyone who makes fun of me can meet me after work at the trailhead and we'll sort it out then!

If I saw some guy riding that bike down the street at 20mph I would say, "THAT is one strong dude, Holy cow!!"

Hi,
that design can have a high speed wobble. I wouldn't go faster than 30 mph to be on the safe side.

I'd laugh at it, but I'd still ride it.

If anyone laughs (although you haven't actually said anyone has) I wouldn't worry about. If a bike snob laughs then stick to his rear wheel, or even better drop him. Then you'll have the last laugh.

Happy riding, Portent.

I may change my status to "Races with Bums". It's a guesstimate that I'm hitting the 20mph mark since I don't have a computer for it. But let me tell you it sure feels like flying on that thing. I think that I'll forego the computer and just get some tassles for the handlebars instead.

Looks like a old standard bicycle to me
but I see a few around my area...there still a few people going on them, everyone to his/her own I guess. The problems come when repairs are needed if you can make the repairs more power to you keep on riding.
