wow thats fast

just goofing off and seen this about a guy going 108.92 mph on a bike im not sure of myself yet at 15 and up ( only hit those going down hill)

I wonder whether that record held until John Howard's run in the 1970s. Howard had to use a two-stage gear train to avoid needing an impossibly large chainwheel. I believe his moving windbreak was significantly larger, as well.

What really impresses me is that one would have to spin a 256.5" gear (27" x 9.5, from the museum website) at around 140 RPM to hit 109 mph.
