How do I tell my LBS they screwed up?
A few weeks ago I recieved my Cannondale Jekyll 800 I had ordered from my LBS. While the bike has been performing well, there are two minor problems which, I think, are caused from the build. First, my chain seems to be too long. When the chain is on the biggest chainring, and the 2nd biggest cog, it touches itself by the pulleys.
Second, the bike is equipped with a remote lock-out for the rear shock. During my rides, the lever would move from the unlocked to the locked position. I noticed a few things. According to my owners manual, the up position should be unlocked, and down locked. Mine is opposite. Also, the cable should be routed to not interfere with the water bottle mounts, yet mine interferes. Finally, the cable seems to be too long. What's the best way to point all this out without sounding arrogant or like a "know it all"? The LBS owners are very nice people, and they have been in business for a long time. My family has been buying bikes from them for as long as I can remember, so I don't want to sour our relations. Thanks! MSD |
why don't you go back to the bike shop and tell them your concerns.. Don't order them to do this or that, just tell them your problem and ask what would be the best solution...

When I bought my bike at my LBS, they wanted me to ride it for a month and bring it back in, and they'd make any adjustments I would need to make.
I'd take it back in and tell them your problems. Chances are, they'll be familiar with them anyway, and they'll make the adjustments for you. Koff |

Thanks for the replies. I just got back from my LBS. Couple things. First, my description of the chain being to long was off. I meant when it was on the SMALLEST chainring, and the 2nd to SMALLEST cog, it touched. The mechanic told me it is suppose to be this way because it is a full suspension bike, and it makes sense now that he pointed that out.
Second, he adjusted the remote lockout for me. It's still opposite of my friends Jekyll, and what the supplement said, but again he pointed out it can be routed either way. In fact, it came from the factory the way it is. I did not realize the bikes came practically assembled from the factory. Anyway, all should be good now. Thanks! MSD |
If I screw something up I want the customer and come back and tell me, I need the feedback otherwise I might think I am perfect.
The bikes come in mostly assembled but not adjusted. They need wheels trued, gears/brakes adjusted and you need to make sure everything is tight. |
