Cleat compatability
will Egg beater cleats work with SPD shoes?
Im finally going clipless and havent yet decided if Im going Shimano or Egg Beaters. I found some el cheapo SPD shoes that I was going to pick up, but before I do, I dont want to make my pedal decision quite yet (need to find some deals on a pedal) |
cmon, this should be an easy one

Cheapo SPD shoes will work with eggbeaters, but it might not be the best thing for them. Eggbeater pedals need a very stiff soled shoe because they have such a small platform. In most, but not all, cases cheapo shoes are not that stiff.

Oh, and if you find a good deal on eggbeaters tell me, I'm looking for a second pair for my road bike.

beaters are on ebay in a few places. so im not too concearned about getting a pair right now. theres some leftover shoes on specialized's webiste for $20. theyre 2001 models, but dont look that bad. its not a priority right now anyway, because i dont have any cash anyway

I used Eggbeater cleats on my Specialized m020 Mtn shoes (el cheapo). They worked pretty good. I would get a bit of soreness on the bottom of my foot after 80 - 90 miles due to the sole not being stiff enough but they worked pretty good. I just had to replace them because the seams were coming unsewn, I had about 5000 miles on them. They worked awsome for commuting' as they gave good grip when putting a foot down at the lights.
