Doggies

Some great big dogs raced at me from behind the fence of a property I was passing.

They obviously couldn't reach me. But it's irritating, you know? So I blew my whistle at 'em, like I do at cars sometimes.

They shut up and didn't bark again! (except the little one. I didn't notice it was even there until the other big dogs stopped barking...it kept yapping!)

i was riding down a road once, and there was 3 dogs. I always hate when i see dogs in the way, or any other animals...they can be very unpredictable....some are nice and some are mean and growl:( I was with 2 other friends. I rode right past the dogs and they started chasing me....but i was fast enough to get away from them. One of my other friends got caught up with the dogs....he said it was the scariest thing hes ever done in his life....hes only 11:p

I had five dogs chase me on a ride once. I was outrunning four of them, but one got the inside line on a corner and went to cut across my line. Well, I slammed on my new (and at that stage, very loud and squeaky) brakes. You've never seen five dogs turn and go home so fast in your life! :D

Dogs really are the only thing about cycling that I hate. This weekend I was riding with a freind and 2 dogs came at us. They looked harmless, just barking, but you could tell they were intimidated too. But when we stopped yelling at them to go home and turned our backs on them, one of them ran up from behind and bit my freinds rear wheel. No harm done to the bike. I hope it loosened some teeth on the mutt.

I don't remember the last time I had real trouble with dogs on my bike. I do have dogs bark at me from behind a fence. I always say something in a calm voice. Sometimes, they turn friendly after that, other times, they keep barking. Oh well.

PS: I keep my Zéfal HPX handy under my top tube, just in case. The water bottle helps too, so does squealing like a little girl. :D

It's not the barking dogs that scare me. It's the one's that sneak up on u and then start grawling. They dont bark just an evil grawl. U dont know he's there til he's there. They get right on u'r heels before u hear them.

I may be the only dog lover in this forum. I seldom cycle without the company of my Chihuahua (he has a special bag and likes going on bike rides with me).

. .. but I have also had unpleasant encounters with dogs too.

I have several dogs at home but, they are kept in my fenced yard. They don't chase cars, bicycles, children or anything else!!

The worst part of my cycling morning is near the end of a road I have to go down, where the white Pit Bull lives. Every freaking morning this mutt runs the length of the owner's property behind a fence (very quietly) and then comes out onto the street after me barking and growling! I try to get up to top speed as I approach the the little @#$%'s yard and get past before he knows I'm there. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Makes for a tough minute or two cause there is a stop sign at the T intersection just past his house. I usually just holler "get back" at him and fly!!
