Biking does cause impotence???
Then how come China, Denmark, and other cycling cultures still procreate?

The media spreads F.U.D. better than anyone. (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt)

Quick, go out and buy duct tape and plastic!

I think I'd need some popsicle sticks if that's gonna work.

Forget that! Get some carbon-fibre toilet-paper rolls....

What is the treatment for the exact opposite of impotence? Cycling isn't doing it for me.

bkaapcke 06-05-07 08:34 PM

This problem can show up when you get a little older, like about 50, when all the wear and tear shows up. I had ridden a DF bike for years without any real problems. Then, all of a sudden, no sex and a real tough time going pee. My prostate just didnt get along witn that bike seat anymore. I tried every trick seat available, with varying degrees of relief. Unfortunately, the one that really worked put more weight on my hands, and my wrists rebelled. A LWB 'bent was the answer for me. I ride way more, and like it more. bk

Moral of the report: Never ride with a pad or 900 pressure sensors.

Maybe if the sensors vibrated blood flow would increase.

China and Denmark population growth rate has significantly decreased in the last 50 years. About the same time bikes became popular.

China's population increases each year by approximately 12-13 million people.
As for Denmark, its population groth rate has increased from 0.29% to 0.31% in the last 5 years.
I gathered these numbers from the respective countries official pages on population and growth, I see no significantly decrease in their population.

Dr. Irwin Goldstein is a fruitcake. His website lists bike riding along with diabetes as a major risk factor for impotence. This whole subject has come up many times on the forums.

I'm with datajunkie, every time I touch my wife we have another kid...

I'm telling yu, this is an over 50 problem for the most part. Many will never have problems with it. They are lucky. IL'd love to have a sub-20 pound CF bike instead of an over 30 lb. recumbent. But they just don't work for me. And I've got my EZ Sport so dialed in that I'm not interested in going to a Tour Easy or GRR. bk

I know where you are coming from, being within a couple years of 50 myself...but keep in mind that riding or not, our prostate's are gonna enlarge as we get older. I think the reason why I don't have those problems (yet) is partially due to wise saddle choices...comfort over bling. How some of these guys manage to keep Mr. Winky from up and falling off on some of those racer-type crotch-hatchets is beyond me. My well-fitted B17s will hopefully keep me on a DF for years to come...knock on wood. (excuse the pun) ;)

Impotence is caused by males who are afraid of females. They are 120 lb tiny creatures, who eat, crap, and sleep, just like males. Yet, just how many of you look away when one notices you staring at her. Better question, how many of you stare at a female just to go home and relieve yourself with her hot sexy body on your mind.

Impotence is caused by beta males who are afraid of their own sexuality.

Important thing is that alpha males who are proud to have a penis do not suffer from this disorder.

I'll let you all sort this out. Once you get over the utter baldness of my words, you will be able to do your own deduction, perhaps more research. Ask: "Who the hell is this guy to say I'm a wuss bag beta male with no balls?"

DataJunkie 06-06-07 05:04 PM

I think I just peed myself.

Mchaz 06-06-07 06:29 PM

"Thick gels on saddles can also increase pressure to the perineum, the studies found, because the material can migrate and form clumps in all the wrong places."

"The safest seats and saddles, experts say, force the rider to sit back firmly on the sit bones so the perineum is protected."

I'm glad two see those two comments in the article.

A noseless saddle is one way to force a rider to sit on his sitbones, and is the only solution addressed in the article. As many of us know, a firm saddle with a properly adjusted bike and posture will achieve the same results. If most of your weight is on your perineum with a traditional saddle, something is wrong with its adjustment.

Good news: you took the time to at least attempt to use proper spelling and grammar.

Bad news: you're still a virgin

This same BS was in the media 12 years ago. It seems that every few years some clown needs attention so they produce a "scientific study" of this sort to get their name in print.

Over a quarter million miles riding bicycles . . . 75 years old . . . Impotence? You got to be kidding!
