Airborne Valkyrie at Academy?
I posted this on the Road forum yesterday, but it got lost in the mire of posts, so I thought I'd post it here in general. I saw this bicycle at a local academy the other night (while shopping for golf equipment) and saw this https://www.academy.com/index.php?pag...454-01232-9690. The image is below. Anyway, it's a basic Sora package with Tektro linear pull brakes. The only things I can see that are lacking is that the fork feels like it's steel (after tapping on it) and the RM17 rims. However, for $399--and if it fits (it's the standard one size fits all department store deal)--you can't beat it for entry level if you want a good recreational road bike. I asked the department manager about the bicycle assembly at his store and he said all of his assemblers have been through a Park bicycle maintenence class. I might consider getting one myself if it fits (it looks like it's around 50-52cm). Does anyone have any experience with this bicycle? I'm looking for a low cost yet decent road bike for a friend--and she doesn't want to do ebay or garage sale hopping. I did a BF search and didn't find anything. Anyway, It might be something I might get for myself, but not likely as I like to restore old steel bikes from the 80's and 90's.

Same frame as flyte SRS-3. The frame's solid. Very worthy of the ultegra 9 group I have on it.
I'd say go for it. Upgrade the wheels and call it good.

Has the Airborne brand been resurrected ? The Valkyrie used to be a titanium frame before Airborne went away in 2005. This one appears to be aluminum.

Airborne the name belonged to Huffy for a while, and again is currently is owned by Huffy. There was supposed to be Airbornes in the marketplace again made them using the name and the designs liscensed from Jamie. I have yet to see any in stores yet.
The are the registered owners of Airborne.net too but its currently in limbo with nothing on it.
