Dumb pump question
 

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but........... Is there a trick to using pumps designed for presta valves? My old pump had 1 head & needed an adapter for presta valves. Lately, I had trouble making it stay on the valve, so I just got a new pump with dual heads. I was excited about not having to use an adapter on the valves thinking it would be easier & simpler, but I have the hardest time, getting it off the valve. I'm afraid I'm going to rip the valve off the tube. Also, it seems to let a lot of air out when it comes off, but that may be pressure built up in the pump hose itself. I'm tempted to going back to the adapter & use the bigger head. Any ideas?

ive found trouble with pumps made for both presta and schrader. My presta-only pump works every time.

Go back to the dealer and let them show you how it works. Its best visually. Some pumps have a fitting at the end, a threaded screw. You might need to know how to tighten or loosen that to get the presta from leaking air while pumping.

Yea, I took a look at pumps without rubber hose and immediately dismissed those. Because like that it would be easier to break the stem, and harder to pump in that position.


My choice was a pump (for presta and schreder) with a hose that goes from pump to tire. That way I won't break the stem, or the pump while pumping.


Topeak Road Morph G... About 13 inches long, attaches to either the frame or the way I like it in a book bag. Can use it like a floor pump, and it has pressure guage. Picked one up for $29.. Excellent quality.
