CamelBak bottles...
 

Anyone use these? I'm curious to know how well they fit in a standard bottle cage, especially the 1 liter size, and if they are even worth it.

Suggestion...Go to the store, take one of the bottles over to a bike with a mounted cage and try it.

I have a 750ml Camel bottle that I can shove into my Planet Bike bottke cage, or my Specialized Side Entry cage. It doesn't actually fit but it does hold. UNforunately the bottle is getting quite scuffed and it's not so easy to remove while riding.

Terry Bicycles says their Nalgene bottles which are similar in size and shape, fit their carbon bottle cage but $60 is a bit beyond my budget.

I've decided to never pay for a water bottle. I'm considering a camelback pack for hiking, though.

I have one of their 750ml Camelbak bottles. (seen below) In my non-adjustable cage, it just *barely* fits. I have to shove it in there fairly hard but it holds it. I just have to be careful not to fall off the bike while I pull it out of the cage while riding. The shape of the bottle flares out a ltitle in the middle, which is why it fits so snugly in the cage.

I like how the bottle functions. It comes with a straw so I can sip water from it while it's upright so I don't have to tip the bottle back. That's helpful when drinking while riding since you can still keep an eye on the road. What I don't like is that the top of the water bottle is leaky. I don't know if I have a defective one or not, but whenever the bottle's in my bag, it ends up leaking water.

On a related note, I'm getting paranoid of bacteria growing in the mouthpiece part of the bottle but I'm not sure how to clean it. Any suggestions would be nice.

Remove the cap and submerge it in hot water with washing-up liquid. Let soak for an hour or so, and then rinse it under running water until it stops foaming. Let it air dry, and you're done.

Baby Bottle sterilizing tablets. Or put it in a hot wash in the dish washer. The Sterilizing tablets also work on a Camelback bladder - even if it is growing mould in it.

Oddly enough, I just discovered some kind of clear gel like substance with black dots growing in the bottom of my bottle. I normally use one part Gatorade to two parts filtered tap water but lately I've been getting a refill from a public fountain in the park :eek:

So today I tried soaking it in hot water with dish water liquid and vinegar then scrubbing with a baby bottle brush and finally air dry. Let's hope that's the last I'll see of whatever that was.
