I bought a Mongoose at Toy's-r-us for my kids first bike at X-mas. I requested a boxed unit so that I could assemble it myself. If you must buy from there, and can build it yourself, do so. Oterwise maybe get something cheap from an LBS or Sport Chalet where at least theres a bike dept with someone that could be watched building it.

My accountant charged me $5000 in consulting fees last year so I wouldn't have to pay $500 in taxes. Ain't I smart?

The Toys R Us in Columbia SC charges a ten dollar assembly fee. Bikes are easy to put together though, the pedals and handlebars being the hardest if you want to call it that.
