Dumb question.
Can I use brake cable housing as shifter cable housing too?
I want to use colored jagwire housings, but they only claim to be for brakes. |
i odn't see why not if they're the proper length.
|
Well..... I just checked my bike, shifter housings are thinner than the brake housing. But I'm not sure if I can use brake housings for shifters. Will the housing fit into the shifter correctly?

bah... just get the proper stuff for the job. this sounds like a mess waiting to happen.
|
Yep it's cool, I actually found the correct shift cable housings. Thanks.

Can you? Yes
Should you? No |
Yes, but not the other way around. It should be on this thread for future searching. Break cable housing is a wound steel strip to contain the forces needed for breaking. Shifting housing is strait wire encased in plastic and the forces from breaking can cut through shifting cable housing.
