Nasbar and Performance spite me for the third week in a row!

Three weeks ago I decided to buy a few things from performance. Long sleeve jerseys to help shield the sun. Less than a week later, BAM! they go on sale.

No biggie, it happens. The following week I decide to put road pedals on my road bike instead of the mtn pedals (wise decision). I ordered the pedals and THE NEXT DAY those damn things go on sale.

I'm feeling a pattern.

This weekend, yesterday to be exact, I tried to order some parts for the touring bike I am building. Cassette, chain, Wheelset.....and today, what happens? WHEELS go on sale!

I've told myself no more bike buying for another month. So within the next 2 weeks there will most likely be a 40% off coupon to either performance or nashbar.

Mark my words.

Get revenge! I've had the same experience, so I try to outflank them. Keep all of your old Performance catalogs and order from whichever has the best price on what you want. Sooner or later, most stuff goes on sale and they'll honor the price based on the catalog code. For example, I wanted another pair of Ultra shorts, current price: 69.00. I dug out my Winter Clearance edition and, lo and behold, they were 39.00. Then I got double team points (20%) toward my next buy. Net cost: about 32.00. I consider it to be good sport to try to maximize savings when shopping on line.

Hey post what you are about to buy, if its something I want, I'll wait a week for it to come on sale.

Just kidding.

I am not sure about bike stores but most larger chains will give you THE BENIFIT OF THE SALE, for about a month after you buy an item. That is rather than have you, return the item, and buy it again at the sale price, they will refund the difference. CHECK it out its not a policy that they actively promote. Don't hurt to ask.

Post results if it turns out to be true.

The local LBS I frequent, matches and usally beats sale prices from the big retailers web pages or whatever if I bring an ad to his attention. You might ask your local LBS to do the same, sounds like you are spending a fair amount of money.

Which pedals? I'm trying to decide between look and speedplay X-2. I have two sets of the old time pedals and Shimano shoes. I got my new Sidi's yesterday. I looked on E-bay for 3 weeks and my size in a women's shoe did not show up. Like you, as soon as I ordered my shoes from Supergo, my size went on auction. I like the color of the shoes I paid $229 for much better than the other shoes for $115. Oh, well. I've already paid the shipping to send back a pair to Nashbar. None of the bike shops in the area carry Sidi. I'm tired of driving to the Post Office, so I'll keep the expensive pair.

I have, on several occasions, sent an email to Nashbar pointing out that a recent pricey item I just purchased has gone on sale.

You'd be astounded at the results one can get with a polite request.

YMMV

I have a slightly different issue, has anybody else noticed a decline in Performance service? They used to be a pleasure to deal with, now they're lousey. I've placed 3 orders in the last 6 weeks.

The first order went fairly well except my 2 day delivery took 11 days to get to me. When I placed my next order and mentioned it, I didn't even get a "sorry."

The next order, I ordered 4 items. I did get a 3 foot long box several days later, it contained a micro wedge! No pump, cleats, or tools, yet they charged me for everything. Not only that, but when I ordered, they said everything was in stock, when the order got downstairs to shipping, only the micro wedge was in stock. When I called about the empty box, I did get a "sorry" and a reverse credit, but that was it.

The last order, over the weekend, I decided to cancel all the backorders, and combine everthing on one order along with some new stuff. I went on line, and everything still showed backorder status, so I called and was told only customer service could cancel, and they didn't work weekends. But they were glad to take my new order. Everything showed to be in stock.

Monday I called customer service to cancel the prior orders, and guess what, some things had shipped on Friday, despite the on-line tracking stating otherwise. I'm betting I won't get anything today.

As to my new order, you guessed it, out of stock items.

Is there a better source than Performance I can take my business to? I've not heard good things about Supergo customer service. How about Nashbar?

I just ordered something from Performance and my 2 day shipping took 4 days. For whatever reason my stuff sat around for 2 days before they shipped it out. Everything I ordered was in stock, so I guess it was just crappy service.

I order stuff at my LBS and they usually get it by the end of the week. No internet sale prices, though! but a lot more personal service.

I did order from Alfred E Bike once, wow, what great everyday prices!

I usually order thru the LBS, hate to see them dissapear, leaving only Supergos, Wally world and online as places to buy bike stuff.

I've used aeBike for a bunch of stuff, including a Cross-Check frame. I have been very impressed with thier pricing and service.

I can't complain too much about service. I often end up getting a lot of backorder items that get canceled. But I ordered something one morning from Performance, it was at my house the next morning, and i didn't pay overnight shipping.

Placed my first order with AEBike this weekend (bb) should be here soon. Also placed an order with nycbikes.com. Paid 44 for a crankset shipped. Can't beat that.

That's what I've been trying to do, too. My favorite shop gets two orders a day from Quality, which is just out in a suburb. I ordered a BB last week from them, and it was in about 24 hours later. I'd like to see any online retailer match that!

I had to return aero bars because they didnt say what size they fit, they returned only half of my $95 they waited for seveal weeks to send me a refund check so they could use their "after 30 days: big restocking fee is charged" policy to screw me. And of course they egnored my attemps to get more info.

How many others are ripped off this way? we should file a class action lawsuit!!

your just begging for trouble dealing with them.
