My wife is going to kill me
 

Unless someone can help.

We have carpet that's less than a week old. As we were moving some stuff around, a v-brake pad tumbled out of some stuff and came to rest on the carpet. When I picked up the brake pad, my wife started swearing at me.

The brake pad, having been previously used, left a bit of brake dust on the carpet. No grease, just some black dusty residue. I tried to carefully blot it up out of the new carpet, but there's still a smudge there.

Basically, I need to figure out how to clean this up.

Thoughts?

My wife won't swear or yell at me! I say stand up to her man!:D

Try Resolve on the carpet. I can't help you with the wife.

Xylene is my all-purpose solvent of choice. It's the main ingredient in Goo-Gone but much cheaper. Open the windows and set up a fan.

Who exactly owns that carpet?

Go to a place that rents carpet shampooers. They sell bottles of spot cleaner that will do the job.

Tide to go Has saved my hide a few time.

Tell her the next spot on the carpet will be blood...and it doesn't come out...

Try rubbing alcohol, and dab it up with a paper towel.

Blot? try vacuum?

Tried dry blotting with a towel, and then vacuuming. Didn't want to get the stuff wet, because I was afraid it would become grease if dissolved in the wrong liquid.

I'll look into some of the solvents mentioned.

By the by, when I say "swearing" it wasn't nasty as I seem to have conveyed. I just wanted to emphasize the fact that she was rather irate with me about having bike parts on the brand new carpet.

I can enthusiastically reccomd the spot-bot by Bissel. I have used it succesffully to clean up spilled coffee, wine, blood, dog urine, dog diareah, bike chain gunk, grease, and lots of mud from my garden. Increase the concentration of the cleaner with each run until you are satisfied.

This together with a dish washing machine, a Roomba, and a Scooba, may have saved my marriage, and at least make our lives much more peaceful.

Edit: I just remembered that it worked on Beet juice which even my clothes washer can't get out of a T-shirt I spilled some on.

Getting rid of the spot sounds like it's pretty well covered, so I'll through my two cents worth in on the other thing.

If either spouse is swearing at the other, it's past time to see a marriage counselor. Sounds like it could be a control issue.

Is this a joke? Are you single? What's wrong with swearing at your spouse once in a while? As long as it's not in front of the kids it's not a problem.

Maybe we should get Oprah and Dr. Phil on here......

Well, this isn't about me, but, no, no and everything.

If someone holds so little respect for another that they've made a lifetime commitment too, then they can't respect anybody and have some unresolved issues that most likely require professional help.

In pre spot-bot days when I spilled coffee on the carpet she would give me this look that reminded me of the way I looked at my puppy when it was house training.

We use a product called Spot shot. Seems to work great. We get it at Target and have seen it at the grocery store too.

I've removed bike grease from my carpet with carpet spot cleaner. Come to think of it, I've removed touch-up paint-- celeste, of course-- from my carpet with carpet spot cleaner.

If your wife knew about those spills I've made, she might find your little accident more reasonable. :D

Windex and a sponge. It works for vomit and blood, it should work for anything else!

And no I didn't mean swearing swearing...I just meant that she was generally irate at the grey black smudge on her brand new carpet.

Trust me when I say everything is right and happy in the house. And I CERTAINLY don't require the advice of a moronic frakhead like Dr. Phil. (I hate that guy...)

May I recomend a product called blue majic. At least that is what I think it is called. My wife got it at the auto parts store. It seems to be like dry cleaning fluid but in a spray can. It is the best thing I have used. Best of luck
