cheapest way to ship out a wheelset?
Hey guys,
I'm trying to send in an old pair of Cane Creek wheels back to Cane Creek to get them looked at (they're developing cracks). Anyway, I've gotten two boxes from my LBS (one box for each wheel), and I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to ship them out. I've tried UPS, Fedex, and USPS online calculators, and I've found that it'd cost between 20-30 to ship ONE box. Since I'm shipping out both wheels, this would cost me close to 50 bucks. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the costs down? Currently I'm going to try digging around for 1 big box that can hold both wheels, hopefully that'll lower costs a bit.
Thanks in advance.
Henry

I would try USPS they shipped based on weight only, while Fedex and UPS shipment costs would be based on dimensions of box since by the box size it would be shipped at a higher weight then it really is.
Another way to save a few dollars tape both boxes together VERY well. Second best price would be Fedex Ground you can ship a whole bike for $30.
I just looked at the box I received my last wheelset in, it was $16 for two wheels (two boxes taped together) from oregon to california.

i shipped my wheels coast to coast (philadelphia to seattle) for $20 via fedex. if you can fit 2 wheels into one box (this is fairly common!!) then you should be good to go!.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did what you've all suggested and taped the two boxes together. A quick search online showed that fedex was my cheapest option @ $20. Thanks again
