Cannondale Road Warrior 400 Hybrid question...

Hi All,

I'm thinking about trading in my road bike (Giant OCR3) for a hybrid. I prefer the beefier brakes and upright position of a hybrid. I've been looking at a Cannondale Road Warrior 400 (http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/07/c...odel-7HR4.html). I haven't seen this bike in person yet, but based on the bike geometry and specifications, this is the kind of bike I'm looking for.

One thing that concerns me is that the pictures on the Cannondale website show that there are no eyelets on the rear of the frame for mounting a rack.

Does anyone have a late model (2006 or 2007) Cannondale Road Warrior? Do you know if the rear frame is equipped with eyelets for mounting a rack or fenders? It looks like only the front fork has eyelets based on the pictures in the Cannondale website.

Thanks in advance.

if you liked the OCR you might try the FCR. Fast but with a comfortable ride. Don't know your price range and the warrior wasn't the right one for me. But to each....

hi mulchie,

I saw the FCR in the store, and thought it was nice. However, it is very similar to the OCR. I'm looking for something with a longer wheelbase and a longer chainstay. I plan to put a rack on the back and want to make sure the frame is long enough so my heels won't keep hitting my bags.

Also, I like the lower mountain bike-ish gearing of the Road Warrior. I need the low gears when I'm hauling kids and stuff around town (it's hilly around here).

It's all personal cynergy. I tried the warrior and it was sweet, but not right for me. The best part is finding something that just swoons you. Have fun! This is surely one of life's pleasures.

The Cannondale has eyelets for a rear rack, their site picture just doesn't show them off that well. I have an older RW 900, which is the same frame a the rear rack fits nicely. It even has eyelets for front panniers if you decide you want them as well.

Thanks HauntedMyst. That's good to know. I thought it would have them, but couldn't tell from the images.

How do you like your RW900? My LBS didn't have a Road Warrior 400, but they did have a 500 (the sportier, more race-bike model) and it was really nicely built.

I love it, its my favorite bike to ride around town because its pretty light and nimble but sits more upright than a road bike yet still isn't geriatric looking like a lot of hybrids. Its worth looking at the Bad Boy Disc while you are there. Similar bikes at similar price points but just slightly different geometry.

I have an '06 RW 500...it does have eyelets/braze ons for a rear rack and/or fenders.

The 06 and 07 RWs are fundamentally similar; the 08 Road Warriors are different. The 06 and 07 RW 400 had a unique frame (Street Si Frame); the 500, 800 and 1000 have the Optimo Road Warrior Frame.

The 08 frames have different names. The RW1000 is now called the Road Warrior 1 and has the Optimo Road Warrior frame and uses caliper brakes for skinnier tires. The Road Warrior 2 thru 4 us the "Road Warrior" frame that appears to be similar to the older Street Si frame and accomodates V brakes for wider tires.

I really like mine. Attached is a pic of my ride complete with fenders...hey, the rainy season is just around the corner... :)

I came very close to buying the Bad Boy but ulitmately went with the Road Warrior and glad I did, for the type of riding I do, the gears on this bike suits me better. Don't get me wrong, the BB is a cool ride, I still want one, but given the choice, I'd still pick the RW again. :)
