What jobs can you think of that involve riding a bike for any reason?

Dope runner (sometimes delivered on bikes)
Professional movie extra: guy on bike

Tour guide ... although, don't expect to make any money at it.
Engineer for a bicycle manufacturing company
Welder for a bicycle manufacturing company

I was thinking about the tour guide thing. I couldn't care less about the money I make. I just want a job that puts me on a bike

Do you have experience being a maid and a daycare worker? Did you enjoy those jobs? If so, you'll do well at being a tour guide. :)

When my Grandfather first started at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engines he was a parts and tool runner on a heavy-duty Worksman Tricycle.

I did some relief work on my bike during a bridge and traffic problem on a hot summer day. The police needed water distributed to their officers and they asked the Salvation Army for help. We had an excess supply of water leftover from a near disaster (plane crash), so I installed my panniers and rear trunk, and loaded a messenger bag, and set off through the traffic. We not only served the officers, but several motorists that had broke down.

Yeah, I've looked into being a tour guide and from what I understand the job involves a lot of cleaning up after people, making sure that so-and-so doesn't ride with so-and-so, or does ride with so-and-so, and making lunches, and ensuring that so-and so doesn't consume anything with eggs, that so-and-so takes his medication, and riding sweep, and driving the van, and sorting out accommodations issues when the campground area you've booked comes up as not being booked, and listening to so-and-so complain about all his aches and pains, and so-and-so complain about the food, and so-and-so complain about the accommodations .......

OK, how about bike mechanic?
You have to test ride your work!

I once had a job as a "bagboy" at a local Albertson's grocery store. I was allowed to do my duties on my
ROLLERSKATES!! :eek:

After years of being THROWN OUT of grocery stores for wearing skates, I was in heaven! :D

One lady summed it up one day with the following comment...
"Ya know, every elementary school kid's mother knows about YOU!"

I think that was what the boss had in mind. :rolleyes:

You seen those shoes kids wear that have little wheels on the bottom and they can just roll everywhere instead of walking? GENIUS! Why hasn't this caught on for adults? I soooo want some. Very cool you were allowed to wear roller skates... sounds like you made a crappy job fun!

One of the stranger kids at my high school crammed his feet into a pair of these and rolled around.

I guess you have to admire people that really don't give a flying **** what other people think.

To the list: bicycle taxi (pedicab/rickshaw).

Cool to see another Montanan! GF native and lived in Bozeman for 7 years. I sold out and moved to CA recently. :(

Got another profession. A spin class instructor. Never been to spin class... nor be caught dead in one, but I'd imagine there's a head spin class guy.

Don't know where the OP is from, but where I live, much of the mail is delivered by bike. That's another possible job, if it exists in your location.

Or girl. I'm working toward my certification so I could possibly do that if I wanted. And BTW - spinning classes can be VERY challenging. The one I attended this past winter was TOUGH!! You might reconsider ... a spinning class could whip you into shape!

Paperboy. Do they ride bikes anymore? Do they even exist?

Very few places if any in the US. They used to in some cities, but I believe they abandoned it. Some still walk with a three wheeled cart...

There are EMTs on bikes.

I'm a tour guide! And yes, the pay isn't great and we tend not to get tips as it's not really part of the culture. But it is a fantastic job. We only offer day rides so thankfully a lot of the accommodation issues aren't a problem. We just have to deal with the weather, food outlets closing when we need to order lunches, different riding abilities within the group, taxis etc...

BUT, you get paid to ride a bike and talk to people from all around the world! It's the best job I've ever had! :)

Not around here since about 1977 I was one of the last ones:o I had a 90+ paper route and on Sundays that was usually two trips.

I was a paerboy in the mid 80's and I used my bike for at least half the year (upstate NY). I never rode in the snow (loaded bike in snow is dangerous). My route bought me a couple bikes.

I'm a part time tour guide as well, but I don't get to ride a bike - I enjoy it so much, i'm thinking of making it a long time job/career.

Travel writer: ride around, sell pictures and stories to magazines)

Cycling instructor: teach people handling skills, how to ride in traffic etc. Hard to make a living out of it (though I never really tried), but as a supplementary income it's great and the job is the most rewarding I've ever had.

Huh? You're not on a real bike there...

I'm going to get my certification in October.

If the weather is realy crappy I'l probably be in the school rec center anyways to stay in shape, so why not?
