Besides, I don't even like the taste of most alcoholic beverages. There are a few beers that I can drink that don't taste vile, but they're rare. I'm extremely sensitive to bitter tastes. Wine is particularly awful - the sour and bitter taste makes me want to throw up straight away...
Try drinking hard booze while wearing sunglasses. That will really screw with your head.

wow, it is something of a dry group.

I'm in the wine business, have been a fanatic about (good) beer and (good) wine for years, and probably have 2-4 drinks just about every evening. I drink slow; i like to savor and I hate being drunk. It's a relaxing ritual for me, and beer and wine offer an enormous array of aromas and flavors that is endlessly fascinating to me.

After a long ride, there's nothing to me like a good pint and a giant glass of water.

I noticed that too, that this crowd is a pretty dry one. I'm surprised that so few people who have responded in this thread drink. I just wonder if they've ever had the pleasure of imbibing good liquor. There is so much out there that is not worth drinking, but there is so much out there that is!

I'm an avid drinker. I love spirits of all kinds, but only those of high quality. I do not like being drunk and I detest hangovers, but I enjoy my daily consumption of good wine, beer, and liquor; a sybaritic indulgence that I cherish for the unique sensory pleasure that a fine spirit imparts. Enjoying it is a treat, almost a ritual, with full attention given to savoring every aspect of the experience. As I recently told my brother, drinking good booze is one of the better things in life.

Cheers!

Please note that I am nowhere near the legal drinking age, but that doesn't seem to deter most of my classmates. (I'm sixteen.)

I don't actually really plan to ever drink . . . honestly, that probably has to do with what I've heard about it "loosening your tongue," and I seem to have a problem with telling people about myself and letting people close.

It just doesn't seem worth it to me.

I actually started bicycling as a new hobby when I decided I need to stop drinking. It's working out great so far!

As a few of us have said--any alcoholic beverage that triggers a migraine does not count as good liquor, nor a fine spirit. Migraines are NOT one of the better things in life .

In case you've never had a migraine, many of us would describe it as your worst hangover multiplied by a factor of at least ten.

Migraines aren't fun, and drinking alcohol is not a treat .

Here's a question: Having started a week ago, I'm maintaining a careful watch on my nutritional intake. With a carefully monitored and planned diet and regular riding, I'm down quite a few pounds this week, and I want to keep my momentum going. My friends and I enjoy going out to a very good local pizzaria, where there's live music and half-priced pitchers. None of this stuff has a nutrition facts label. I refuse to have drinks that are "diet" versions of other drinks (rum and diet coke, "lite" beer). I also realize that alcohol is filled with calories. I'm eating dinner before I go, but plan to drink there. What normal drink should I try that isn't going to be chock-full of calories? I'm open to nearly anything that one could reasonably expect to be available from an average bar.

Captain Morgan and Bud. Good god. I'd give up drinking if that's all that was available.

You will grow older and develop better taste. . .

Agreed, It's as if the OP asked everyone to cite what they don't drink!

Really good post ride beer: Michelob Ultra Amber (don't get the plain stuff)

In my early 20's very heavy drinking, now in my late 40's it's been years since I've had hard liquor. Once a month or so I'll have a few pints of an amberbock on a Saturday night and thats about it.

psh.... GOOD american beers ftw. I'll usually have 1 or 2 drinks in the evening every day or every few days, it doesn't really matter. These are usually cheap american beers or sometimes a martini or a whiskey if I have any lying about. The weekends are spent (at least in the summer): fri night: drinking, sat: riding, drinking, sun: riding, and maybe 1 or 2 drinks with dinner.

the best is riding to the grocery store and strapping a 30 pack of beer to my rack. People make the best faces as they drive by looking for parking.

Johnny Walker Red Label and Beer. I drink very light during the week, but I've been known to get hammered on a Friday or Saturday evening.

You are right East Hill, alcohol would not be a treat if it made you feel bad. I have a sister who wont drink for that reason. Now I've never had a migraine (and I'm glad for that), but it really doesn't sound like it would be fun.

If the average bar can produce "Long Island Iced Tea" they must have tea to start with, no? Try tea and see.

Wow. This thread has taken off like none I've started before. I just ordered 6 750 ml bottles of Grappa (grape brandy) from the company store for $48. I'll give it away as Christmas presents. I could have ordered a reasonable Aussie chardonney for a dollar a bottle but I do not care for the stuff.

Long Island Iced Tea does not have any tea in it. Here is a typical recipe:

1 part vodka
1 part tequila
1 part rum
1 part gin
1 part triple sec
1 1/2 parts sweet and sour mix
1 splash Coca-ColaŽ
