My motivation for the ride was wavering... hence the original post. Thanks for all of the “go for it” comments. I knew I could count on you for support.
We ended up driving to the turn-around point and started there. The fist 12 miles were at a snails pace, more to the inexperienced rider that wanted to come along than the wind (That’s a whole other story by it’s self.). The second leg of 12 miles wasn’t much faster as we backtracked a mile to give the raingear that I was carrying, to the inexperienced rider, at which time we called the support van… (my wife)! Once that issue was resolved we made fair time against the wind. When we turned 90 degrees we tried to make up for lost time over the next 6 miles… (bad idea!) We took a break to rest up for the fun part of the ride… WITH the wind. Unfortunately are legs were cooked! We could maintain a fare speed until a hill came! Overall, It was a fun experience and I would do it all over again. Thanks again for the motivation. |
I set out on what I intended to be 105 miles Sunday. Unfortunately, the first 50 were into to teeth of what the weather guys called "15-25MPH with gusts to 35MPH" wind. After about 25 miles, I decided I wasn't having much fun & turned it around.
Fleeing back with the wind helping was a blast. I was near my max spin rate in my higest gear (something I normally only acheive on the steepest downhills where I live) and flying! |
