bicycles and security
Not locks, but security against terrorism.
The other day on the news I heard about some fake grenades being tossed at an embassy in NY. The culprit may have been riding a bicycle. http://news.monstersandcritics.com/a...ew_York_Police Today a terrorist rode a bicycle in order to kill Iraqi police. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNe...16463420071029 What would happen if bicycles became a common mode of transport for evildoers? They are maneuverable and very rapid, by an expert rider. See e.g. 'Messengers on Crack'-type youtube video. |
No doubt, in a city, when there is traffic, a decent rider on a bike, could easily commit a crime and be gone.
|
I've mentioned this before, the French Resistance used bicycles extensively against the Nazis. They even fashioned grenades to look like frame pumps. The Viet-Cong later used bikes against US troops in Vietnam.

it makes perfect sense n im surprised we dont see it more bcuz its real easy to get away on bike especially in manhattan

To be fair, you must view bikes as a major defense against the evils of the world. I have and my folding bikes do keep me safe and has in the past. This is factoring in all the problems of crime in my area plus the unreliable public transit (periodic strikes, poor service after hours), no car, even being female.

Motor vehicles have been the transportation of choice for evil doers since, oh about 1900, and I haven't noticed a huge outcry against them.

I remeber a case here in Meriden, Ct were a pizza store owner was shot in the butt and the thief made a getaway but was caught riding away with the cash register balancing on the handle bars.
