Shifter lever broke, can I buy a replacement?

ok, this happened back in June and I didnt want to bring up my old thread. So, yeah the lever broke on the right hand shifter and I have been having this itch to get back on and ride and now I have time to fix it. Funny thing is, I woke up this morning to our first snow fall. So, where and how can I get a replacement, and can I buy only one? How easy is it to replace?

Bike is nothing fancy, it's a Columbia bike as can be seen here. Forgive the dust, its been in a shed since about June.

anyone??

Your local bike shop can help you out. The answer is yes, you can buy a replacement. The SRAM TRX is still available from my knowledge, so you could get that model, or another one if you so desire.

ok, thats funny. Right by the reservoir where I was riding, they told me that replacements werent sold. guess I'll just go to a different one then.

I would just need to tell them that its a SRAM TRX shifter correct? And to they sell them individually?

Well, they might not have *that* particular shifter at your bike shop, but its ridiculous that they're telling you you can't get a replacement. You could go with different ones if you wanted to, if it broke on you under normal everyday use then maybe they're not the best stuff. If you were happy with them, why not go again? Then again, I don't know if there are other options out there for a 2:1, 7 speed shifter. Well, you do have 7 speeds right? If not, 8. Its one of the two, but it looked like 7 in the picture. SRAM probably has a similar offering in their grip shift styles, i'd imagine.

At any rate, just from doing a quick look JensonUSA has a set for $21 of that particular shifter.

Thats for a pair. You might be able to find just the one elsewhere. Good luck!

Well, I flipped over head first and the only thing to be out of wack on the bike was the shifter lever on the right side due to all the weight being put on it, other wise I think it would of survived.
Well, its 21sp, so it should be 7sp on the right and 3sp on the left handle? If thats how it works.

As for the grip shifters, not very fond of them and they seem more akward to use but it could be just me.

Thanx a lot for this find. Guess, I wont even bother heading to the LBS.

Now, these are pretty simple and straight forward to replace? or do I need to know something in advance?

its not a big deal, but the ones off that website seem to have a plastic black nut there instead of the metal one on my bike, thats easily interchangable as well, correct?

An LBS can still get 7 speed Shimano trigger shifters, if your rear derailer is compatible with Shimano's 2:1 pull ratio. SRAM uses a 1:1 pull ratio.

Some Sram shifters are Shimano compatable and some aren't. TRX happens to be Shimano compatable.

I didn't take the time to check the warehouse on-line but my QBP catalogue lists TRX 7-speed shifters but only in sets. You could also replace it with a Shimano right side only shifter and save around $7.00 or $8.00 but it wouldn't match. The bottom line is that virtually any LBS can get you one. If it was me, I'd just make you pay before I ordered it.

The good news is that it looks to me like the shifter is separate from the brake lever. That'll save you a little money.

It's aluminum, so brazing anything to it is out. But, if you drilled it out with a teensy drill bit, you could probably screw a strip of metal to it. That's what I had to do with the lever on my Pulse Comp.
