Trying to make a comeback

I've very rarely been around during the last 10 months, because in Jan. my kidneys failed, I went on dialysis, and my three bikes have been gathering dust. I'm finally feeling well enough to try to get back into cycling like I used to be, plus I'm just plain getting sick of not riding. I actually have my bike on the trainer next to my dialysis machine so I can ride during my three hour treatments. Right now I can only keep going for about 15 min before I have to stop, but hopefully I'll get better with time. I'll try to give updates on my progress.

Congrats on starting the comeback. I have never been through anything like that but I am sure having a passion like cycling is a good motivation to get better. If you happen to be riding during your 3 hour treatment this Sunday make sure you try to watch some of the Grey Cup! Riders are gonna take it!

Nice bike. Best of luck in recovering and healing. Glad to hear you're finding your way.

Good luck to you dude, all the best!!

Good luck. I have a pretty good idea of what you are going through. My wife had kidney failure as a result of a reaction from a colesterol lowering drug. She was the one in a million as they state on the warnings. Her creatinin went up to 10 in the emergency room. After about 6 months of dialysis she became well and everything is back to normal. That was a couple of years ago. So far she is fine.
Listen to the Docs do what they tell you and you will be fine too. It just takes time.

I understand, canuck. It was three months after my accident before I could ride at all. Not far, not fast, but on two wheels.

Good for you, Canuck!

Not letting the bad things get you down, that's great!

I hope you continue on recovering well and that sooner than later not only will you be able to pedal longer but you will be outside doing so.

Cheering you on, Canuck, cheering you on....:)

I've never played soccer a day in my life. I'd love to watch the game, but I'm in the States right now and I don't get any channels that cover it (Doh!). The best thing that I've been able to do since all this started was starting to do my own dialysis at home. I dialyze six days a week instead of three, so I get twice as much dialysis (normal kidneys work 24/7, so more dialysis is better). I'm soon going to be starting what's called nocturnal home hemodialysis (NHHD), which I will do for eight hours a night while I sleep. Clinical results for NHHD are usually just as good or better than a kidney transplant! As far as my cycling goes, my goal is to be able to do a 20 mile ride nonstop by Spring. Doesn't sound like much, but for most of this summer, I rarely even looked at my bikes, so it's a fair goal. In all honesty, there aren't many things I like about living in the States (apologies to the Americans), but one thing I do like is having a lot more warm weather, therefore more comfortable riding days. Hmm, getting kind of long winded here, I better stop.

You realize that you are basically a sick, obsessive individual? That being said - GOOD FOR YOU!!!
