Wonderful shot of young lad zipping along crowded sidewalk eating an ice lolly AND using his mobile.

It's trendy, and "As seen on TV".

Reminds me of the Segway. They came out with it, it was supposed to revolutionize transportation. Turns out a $300 electric scooter can do everything it can. Similar with this. Yeah, it's sort of cool. But basically another scooter or skateboard.

Not as portable as a skateboard, and probably can't do nearly as cool tricks.
Not as fast as a bike. Can't carry gear like a bike. Not as stable as a bike. Not nearly as cool as a bike. Can't do nearly as cool tricks as a bike.

I'm surprised he wasn't playing Game Boy at the same time. How irresponsible for a company to have such a shot in the video. They should have included the part where he runs down the old lady and breaks her hip.

Well--to be fair--the "tricks" that kids like doing (stuff like grinding down handrails and along landscaping wall edges) is what has gotten skateboards banned from a lot of US city sidewalks. ...And as far as transportation even just around the neighborhood goes, the tiny wheels of skateboards are terribly inefficient.

It would seem to me that a rear tire that was pneumatic would ride a lot better. It would likelyhave to be a bit bigger overall, but the whole thing would still be small enough to be non-folding but still "bus-portable".

No, an electric scooter cannot earn the rider universal derision with the consistent reliability of a Segway.

In the video it seemed to work great on downslopes. I wonder how well it goes uphill?

Oh man. The Segway. So you know the Segway was invented in NH. The company that invented it created a wheelchair that can go up stairs. Rumor has it one day they were messing around on the frame and rolling around the parking lot and the Segway came to be. The wheelchair still exists and it's quite impressive.
