Google Earth Fans - Bicycle Paths of the world

For all of those Google Earth fans, I just started a new thread on Google Earth. I want to list various bicycle paths and placemarks of the world.

Please help put an post your placemarks and paths to this thread.

If you have not tried Google Earth, you really should check it out.

I don't want to cross post so hopefully the touring folks are looking here too. Google Earth is a great way to relive a bit of your tour.

Hi there. Just a suggestion, but why not use one of the more established bike route communities like www.bikely.com or www.motionbased.com

Each of these provides searchable content and will be a good way to share your routes.

Motionbased is for fitness results so that is pretty much out right there.

Other sites are still not out of the question but the nice thing about posting to Google Earth is that the placemarks automatically become a part of the community and therefore a part of Google Earth. People not familiar with the other sites will be able to see the place marks just by opening Google Earth (once imported by the servers automatic process).

And the thread is for Biking and Walking paths (MUPS). Not just a database for cycling enthusiasts (which is still a fine idea). A community project of sorts. I'm not saying this idea is going to fly but the only way to know is to start.

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

If Google Earth can export GPX files, they can be put into bikely pretty easily, although bikely balks at ginormous GPX files with thousands of route points.

The problem with Bikely is that it includes all kind of rides from a major tour to someone's Sunday afternoon ride. I'd like to start a website similar to Bikely that would only be for routes to get you from point A to point B.
