my right testicle in particular seems to like getting smashed a bit between my leg and the saddle. it's not horribly painful or anything but it does get uncomfortable. how do you prevent this sorta thing?

When it's cold enough they just seem to get out of the way on their own.

what about the other one...
Try getting onto your bike from the other side... At least if you mash the other one they will be matched.

A better seat might help fit at least part of one of the balls through the crevice:

I wear sports bikini briefs when cycling in regular clothes. Gives the boys support and holds everything in place and out of the way. A jockstrap would do the same, but I prefer the bikini briefs.
Off the bike I like the freedom of boxer shorts, and have ridden in boxers at times, but boxers allow the same problems you describe.

Duct tape? Works for all kinds of things, I hear. I wouldn't know; I wear bicycle shorts under my "plain" clothes.

I would think duct tape would actually be less comfortable than Super Glue.

Seat height pulls your clothing tighter. Lowering the seat may help. When I lost some weight, my clothing fit better and there was more space between it and my body. I also find I can shift where my body parts are in relation to my seat, and that helps. I ride in briefs and Levis, but do not have a problem. One of my bikes has a Brooks B-17 saddle. The other is a Specialized Allez with the stock split seat.

Standing on a 26 mile commute would really stiffen the muscle mass in the legs. Briefs might help with the testicle problem some. But, w/o wearing lycra, my biggest beef is the sense that your saddle is being inserted up your arse. Bad for the hemmorhoids.

Now if its only your right testicle which gets caught, you have to ask the question whats happening to the left???? Straighten your seat out, and wear tighty whities when you ride. So you have hemorhoid problems and testicular issues....uhm....maybe a bent is in order.

I would suggest a codpiece.
My husband tells me that squashed cods are quite painful.

Whitey tighties work for me. Maybe try different seat, seat angle, shift around differently on the seat.
It's a unicycle problem, too.

Seriously, why do you not wear bike shorts? If it is
a case of modesty, there are baggy cover up style
with liners, or actual liners that can be used with
regular clothing. If it is more of a case of just short
trips that are not worth changing for, wider seat,
Brooks style, and more upright riding position would
help. I generally wear briefs anyway, so don't find it
much of a problem on the rare occasions using street
clothes.
