customizing chrome bags

customizing chrome bags
So, I'm wanting to make my chrome bag not look exactly like 50,000 other chrome bags in Chicago. I was going to use acrylic paint on it, but first I'm wondering if anyone's had any experience with decorating their bags without ruining the waterproofing.
Does acrylic end up cracking and looking awful?
Would it be better if I just sewed a piece of fabric thru the top layer of the bag and not the waterproof pouch?
If anyone's modified their bags before, some advice would rock my world.

Why not just ride with what you got. You purchased in knowing that thousands of others have the same thing. It's not like the random stranger on the street is going to point and gawk at your now differentiated bag.
Hang a couple blinkies off it and call it done.

Plus, crash a few times. It will be plenty customized after wrecking a time or two.
Personally, if I was concerned with looking unique I would have purchased a bag that is less common than chrome. I like my baileyworks bag but you still see a few of them around.

She's already got lots of near-death marks and grease spots. I've had it long enough that I can't ever part with it to get a new, less-worn-by-others bag. Not to mention, I really don't see the point of blowing more money when what I have is perfect for me. It just needs avocados on it.

Combine your acrylic paints with textile medium rather than using acrylic by itself and you'll do fine. Try to avoid painting directly over the "high flex" zones of the bag like the top of the flap, it can be done depending on the material of the bag, but if you're painting over rubbery waterproof material, it won't have great adhesion and those flex zones will not last.

Spray-chalk, maybe? You could make a stencil and spray the pattern on. If you don't like it or the chalk gets washed away, make another.
