Which Entry Level Hybrid to Keep?
I have a Trek 800 single track, I think it is a 2000 model (bought it last year on Craigs List). I picked up a couple of clean 2000 Giant Cypress's at a local thrift store (one for the wife, one for me to keep or to flip).
The Trek and Giant appear to be pretty similar in equipment. Differences: Giant has aluminum frame, 700mm wheels and SRAM 3.0 derailleurs versus SRAM 5.0 on the Trek (I would assume the 5.0 is better, but not sure and how much?). I do not like the shock seat on the Giant, but a new seat post would change that. I have a better road bike for routine daily riding, so this bike would be for rain service, and maybe a little off pavement (but not off path). The Trek may be more marketable?? |
Keep the one that is more comfortable to you.

The differences are really negligible. Like Smashy said, keep which one you would ride more.

I like the keep them all idea! I have two homes, one in the mountains. So I leave a bike at one, and another at the other house. I think I will be working my way up the quality ladder on bikes this year, as I have just gotten back into it after a 30 year. I am going to give the Giant a good workout this week, and that should tell me which one is better.
