Cycling IRC channel interest?

I've been ponering starting and registering a cycling IRC channel on Undernet.
Anyone interested in such an idea?
show of hands?

It'd allow some real-time chatting on our beloved topic, and other random stuff as desired.

Been done before, a million times. And failed.

Operator, "The man that never answers your question, but always says something negative." We get it, you're angry and have an opinion. We know.

Count me in... but before registering it, just start one! All we'd need is a few people to jump start it.

Matter of fact, I just joined #cycling on Undernet as we speak. So just come right in. If it takes off, I'd be happy to put an eggdrop in there or whatever.

yup need ten regulars/idlers. haha
for reg that is.
I had a channel for some time and de-regged it a couple yers ago.

I've been looking around and found a few cycling related IRC channels, the problem is that each of them have like 1 or 2 people in them. Need to find a way to combine and make for a real channel. I've never been a big fan of Undernet myself but I'm sitting in there.
I have (**REMOVED) and a web applet set up. If this undernet channel takes off I'm all for pointing my applet to undernet.

Lets get some people in this channel!

*edit: Removed other IRC channel information.*

I stick to Undernet because I have other channels there, and don't want 3 or 4 different server/status windows open at once. It gets annoying having to join multiple networks every time I hop on-line.

And yes, channels always start out small and gain members over time. That's the nature of IRC. This is particularly so when dealing with a niche group of people.

This is also the only place I mentioned the channel that's less than a week or so old now.
I suppose if I put a post up in road and MTB cycling forums, it'd get more hits.

This portion of the Forum doesn't seem to get much traffic.

Yeah I tried to get a Touring channel going last week and had 2 visitors for all of about a minute each. I'm sitting on undernet (yet another tab on xchat now, I think that makes 4 networks.. grrr) I'm doing a little reading up on undernet since I've managed to avoid it for the last 10 years or using IRC. You can coun't me towards your 10 regular/idler count though.

Is this project still going on?

Mazaev 09-12-08 06:47 AM

Drop in and see for yourself.

Podolak 09-12-08 06:52 AM

Oh great, now I need to dig up an IRC client...

Thelonius 09-12-08 07:19 AM

mirc is a good one for PC's or you could just point yourself to a web based client like www.mibbit.com

Podolak 09-12-08 07:45 AM

I'll just use Pidgin, mirc doesn't have Native Fedora support.

Thelonius 09-12-08 07:48 AM

pidgin will work, for linux I use xchat.

Podolak 09-12-08 07:49 AM

Thought about xchat but didn't have the package installed. Not that it takes much. I will keep that in mind thanks.
