Schwinn Surburban
My mom lent me her bike today. It will have to suffice as my English 3 speed for now. Though it is a step through, I was hoping maybe it would be kind of a unisex frame. But after getting on it, it feels pretty small. I might need a longer seetpost. I wish the handlebars were farther away too. At 5'10", can I make this bike work? Also is it gay to ride a woman's bike? I know women ride mens bikes, but you don't hear about it the other way around.
Originally I wanted a Schwinn Coffee but the LBS just wasn't getting any. At least I have something to get my chinese takeout food on now.

It's gay for you to ride it wearing a dress. Or, no, that would just be cross-dressing, not gay. Dunno.
Looks like a functional bike, if it works for you.

You can probably put a longer seatpost on it, and flat bars would give you a couple of more inches to work with.

Dunno how much more seat post you can get on that...
FWIW if it has wheels and pedals I ride it...regardless of the what frame type it has.
My current grocery getter. (notice it has the step thru frame

Do you listen to "Coldplay" while you ride the bike? Because THAT would be gay.

Unfortunately, I need to rain on your parade.
First, gay isn't bad.
Second, I have some gay friends, and they don't ride step throughs, so does that make traditional frames gay?
Third, if you care what people who would call riding a step through gay think, then you will always be unhappy. There will always be some rednecked moron that will call you gay for riding the wrong bike, wearing the wrong clothes or even riding a bike at all.
So, I say don't worry about what other people think, and enjoy the bike.

I knew something was wrong when it didn't arrived on their next shipment. When they finally took the time to contact their supplier they found out the supplier was out. Then they said I was looking at April. Again, "We'll call you when it's ready". It's just a little nerve wracking when you pre-pay nearly $400 and never got to sit on it first. Anyway they refunded me and it's all behind me now.
I think the lesson here is that I'm going to have to learn to build a bike myself. Because what I want in a bike is pretty simple: A decent road frame, maybe repaint it if i can. 700*35 tires, single speed with a posible coaster brake, brake up front, nitto north road handlebars, and a brooks saddle. Kind of like what these girls have done: https://www.frankencycle.com/past.htm
Do you think I could learn to do this as I go? I'm going to get my sisters old Schwinn beach cruiser in a few days. I'm just going to take it apart and see what's inside a head tupe and bottom bracket. Heck, maybe I can even use a few components on my first project bike.

Matt,
You can build anything you want, it just takes a bit of time to learn the skills. If you want to see some awesome rides check out RatRod Bikes. Biggest thing on the seat post is to NOT put it further up than the "minimum" mark. If you are on the clyde side it may bend if at maximum extension YMMV. I weigh in at just over 200# at 6'2" and have run 400mm (16") seat posts on some of my odd bikes. I have yet to break one, but I have bent a couple

You're not going to have to build a bike, Matt, though it would sure be an education. What you do need is a different LBS

Just laugh when you think about that $4.00 a gallon gas/petrol that the suckers are shelling out.

Actually, its worrying that the bike you ride can make you gay that makes you gay. So, bad news for you: you are already gay. Might just as well jump right in the deep end now.
jim
p.s., I have heard that if you ride using Powergrips they can bring you back around to your original team

I wasn't referring to *****exuals specifically. I'm sure there are very masculine ones. I was referring more to an image of Tinkerbell. https://disney-clipart.com/tinkerbell...ll-pixie-1.jpg Feminine is the word I should have used.
