Success in stocks follows about
50% the general market
25% the industry
25% the individual company's stock

I love bikes, but buying stock in a bike company isn't going to make me much profit.

Are you sure you want to? Trek is a private company and Cannondale is listed on PinkSheets with a warning that the company is in bankruptcy. Their stock last traded at $0.04.

Not even with somebody else's money. I couldn't bring myself to invest in a company that makes crap products with decent profitability prospects, nor one that makes great products but won't ever make any significant money.

No, I wasn't thinking about it.

Just wondering what people had to say.

Dorel purchased cannondale last month. Before that it was purchased by a private equity firm.

There's stock in private companies and stock in public companies. Or do you want to study the bicycle industry to get an idea? Try going to your local university that has a business school library. Get help from that type of librarian and start analyzing.
