Women You and Your Bike Helmet(s) a student project.

As an avid cyclist and Industrial design student for my senior year I have choosen to focus on examining the perception of cycling and cyclists in North American Urban Centres. For this section of the project I have chosen to focus on a specific stigma associated with cycling -–the dreaded helmet. If you have time and are interested I would Love your insights as to how a cycling helmet could be improved for women, or in-general. I have created a short survey here and would greatly appreciate your response.

Thanks for your time and insights. If you have any further comments please don’t hesitate to contact me at Discotuna@hotmail.com. Thanks again.

P.s. for more details on the project checkout my blog, although it’s a bit out dated. http://bicycleconcepts.blogspot.com/ --Kyle

I submitted a survey. You need a "none of the above" option on the last question. I think that you will find that most women want a helmet that FITS as opposed to the one that is in "feminine colors" or "doesn't make your head look big".

thanks for the response. I choose to omit "fit" because it's obvious --every helmet should fit. But I would consider adding other possible responses. Thanks for your help!

Some of the questions require more than one answer, but you can only select one answer at a time. Some of them are missing an other / freeform answer.

Good luck with your project.

Agreed. A rating in order of importance would have been nice.

Yes, a rating of importance would have been good, or multiple choice.

I did take the survey.

Dreaded helmet??? I love my helmets!! And BTW - all my summer helmets are yellow, and have been for years. I don't anticipating changing the color of my helmet.

About the survey, on the question about bicycles, you completely missed any options for touring or sport-touring (randonneuring/audax) bicycles. Also you don't have an option for "I own my dream bicycle."

And yes, you do need an "other" or "none of the above" for the last question.

Why don't bike helmets have the ponytail hole like softball batter helmets do?

Yes, I wondered about "stigma" myself. The way I look at it, people already think I'm nuts for being on the bike at all - why do I care what my helmet looks like? And after 12 years of school and $40K in student loans, I am NOT risking a head injury.
