broken elbow maybe
I failed to unclip at a stop light and fell over. Yes very humbling, but I still finished my short tour of Florida. Now the question. Has anyone broken their elbow with such a fall? I need to compare injuries, information, etc.

I'm sure someone has. I fell in a similar fashion on a skateboard.
It hurt like a mofo and I had swelbow for a week. It felt broken but wasn't. Most likely it's not broken. Can you articulate your arm? |

Why don't you just go to the Dr. and have it X-Ray'd ... then you'd know for sure.

Go to the doctor and get it x-rayed. I fractured my radius at the elbow when landing after being hit by a car. The only way to be sure is to visit a doctor.

Agreed about the doctor/xray suggestions to be safe.
It's good you have movement and feeling and way to go soldiering on and still knocking down the miles. |
I second (or fourth) the advice to get a film of the elbow. Elbow fractures in the manner you are mentioning are very common and because of the orientation of the bone structure there, even a fracture can remain quite mobile. The repeated swelling suggests that there could be more going on than meets the eye. Do you have any significant bruising in the area? Also, as you already eluded to, there has been some ulnar nerve involvement which is not something I would wait out. It could simply be the swelling in the area has caused some nerve irritation but more severe ulnar nerve compression can be long lasting/permanent if left too long. My guess is a quick x-ray will show you have a minor bone chip which is keeping the area functional but also irritated and inflamed. Good luck!

I broke the radial head (funny bone) in my left arm in a bike accident. Believe me when I tell you that breaking your funny bone is not as funny as it sounds like it would be! I did no fall at a stop though- I flipped endo over the bars and landed on my arm because I was trying to shield my head for the pavement. I knew in about half a second after the crash that I'd broken my arm but instead of going to the Dr. I made my friends (we lived in a college dorm at the time) drive me to Wal-Mart to buy a sling for it. After 3 days it was hurting so bad I couldn't sleep and there wasn't enough alcohol on campus to numb the pain so I did finally go to the doctor. I had to keep the arm in a sling and no lifting anyhting heavier than a can of soda for a few weeks. It feels much better now [several years later] but I still can't straighten my left arm completely and I can feel where the fracture was when the weather changes (especally in the winter time).
Good luck and heal fast, -Ryan |
