do you know these brands ?

I just visited a new bike shop.
Everything they sell is one of two brands: FELT or GT.
I've never heard of either of these brands.
Are they good bikes ?
The fellow there was talking to me about a FELT Speed 33.

Thanks.

Looks like they spec decently. The Speed 33 looks a lot like the Specialized Sirrus.

You've never heard of GT and their triple triangle?

goldfishin 04-20-08 02:31 PM

felt is good. gt is wally junk if i recall right.

Trucker_JDub 04-20-08 02:56 PM

GT has been around for years how can someone not have heard of them? (I'm giving a pass to people that are just getting into bikes for the first time)

DataJunkie 04-20-08 03:16 PM

FELT bikes are sweet. Nothing against GT but I would take a felt over a gt any day of the week.

Machka 04-20-08 03:22 PM

Yep - I have a GT.

GT was the bike to have in it's glory days. Then they sold out and became wally junk. I believe they sold out in 94?

This is true. I think they are a brand of Pacific or one of those companies that buys up names like Schwinn, etc. It appears they are trying to repostion GT as a quality brand again - don't know if they still do the big-box crap....

Siu Blue Wind 04-20-08 09:25 PM

I'm lucky to have a GT GT. Ya know, pre-Pacific. :) They say you can tell the original GT's from the Pacific ones because on the end of the top tube right under the saddle it's embossed "GT". The newer ones don't have it.

I think it looks better than the Sirrus, but it lists for $100 more. It might be worth it.

i thought gt sold out closer to 2000

they still make nice GT's that are sold online and raced by pros. just like schwinn

DieselDan 04-21-08 09:46 AM

Jelly Belly rides GTs.
Slipstream-Chilpolte rides Felts.

Saying a bike is crap because other bike they make are crap is like saying a Corvette is crap because Chevorlet makes the Aveo and Malibu. Everything is crap, just varying degrees of crap.

I love my Felt.

SweetLou 04-21-08 12:21 PM

If I was going to buy an aluminum frame bike, it would be a Felt. I test rode one of the F models. Forget which one, mostly 105 components. It was quick, agile and just seemed like it wanted to take off.

babel 04-21-08 05:52 PM

Thenks for the information, everyone.

I am not new to riding, but I don't hang out with other riders much and I really am just aware of the brands I see in the shops. I will investigate this Felt Speed 33 some more.

Thanks again.
