I need to decide on a $345 bike, tax included or less. I will only buy bikes that are not actual mountain frames and everything, but just a durable park ride with dual shox. Im llooking at a canadian tire bike. I want a supercycle hooligan, but I want to know other people's opinions! What should I get?

Dont buy a "dual shox" bike. $345 isnt enough to get something that will last for over a month. What you need is a hardtail, but you still arent going to get much of a bike for $345 canadian. Go to a real bike shop, otherwise you are going to be screwed.

For $345 you should be able to get somethng decent off of eBay. A 2-5 year old Trek hardtail, or better, might be a good choice. Start at the number 4000 and work your way up (the higher the number the better the bike and components). You might even get up to a 6500 or 7000, which would be a great bike. If just for riding around then put a set of street tires on it in place of the knobbys.

Im jus gonna city ride around but Im not into serious things. Also, canadian bike have 1 year warranties and lifetime arranties on frames, plus my friend has a canadian tire biike which has lasted him over 2 years. And Im not quite sure how to use ebay or how i can trust it. Btw, did I mention Im twelve?

Do get the right size, not too big.
Specialized hardrock is a great starter bike.

See...Any youth bike I get I will grow out of in like 1-2 years. So when Im considering aboout buying THIS, I want an adult size... I can ride an adult size, but it's rather hard for me to get off.

By the way...how much does a Specialized hardrock cost?

US dollars new for less than $300 for basic model.

Check out your local bike shops.

If you get a "real" bike such as a Specialized Hard Rock, it will last years and years. I have had mine (paid less than $300 US) since 1998 and have over 8,000 miles on it.

The only major repair was my own fault. I did not change the change the chain at about 2,000 miles and ruined the chain rings and mostly the cassette. Cost about 250 to get it all together again. But, I could have avoided this by checking my chain wear more frequently.

Go for a real bike and you will be much happier.

Department store bikes are designed to wear out, and are generally assembled poorly and have very low quality parts. They look snazzy, but it is all show.

I have a Supercycle Hooligan and despite what people say, it's ok if you aren't really gonna do real mountain biking.

I've bought a bunch of bikes from Canadian Tire and they have all lasted very long just riding around with mild roughness.

My Dad has had the same CCM bike from Canadian Tire for 10 years, and the only thing that's happened was some paint chipping.
