Paint Questions - A Couple
Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I'm usually over at the Classic & Vintage forum.

I'm in the process of painting the crossbar of my 1980'ish Dawes Atlantis. As this is my first experience in rattle-can frame painting I'm learning a lot as I go along. I'm using a Mitsubishi GTO dark metallic blue by Holts.

I've read through Dr Deltron's thread, "PAINT questions?...anybody.." several times, at:
and done a few searches but still have a couple of questions:

If you spray primer onto colour, it reacts and causes pitting in the paint. Why is this?

If the paint on the frame is without blemish, is it okay not to rub down a coat of primer, colour or clear before applying another coat?

Or, assuming that each coat is perfect, can any benefit be had from rubbing down between each coat? Does it, for example, allow the following coat to ‘grip’ better and form a more durable cover?

Can you speed up curing by using a heat gun? Or is it as my LBS guru says, that rattle can paint cures best with the rays of direct sunlight? He says I should have silver foil behind the frame to get all round curing.

If heat is good, would it be a good idea to make a heat box out of an old bicycle box and a fan heater? Has anyone done this?
