New bike help
I looking to buy a new bike. I am currently riding an 1980's Nishiki road bike and would like to upgrade my ride.
I am having trouble deciding on what type of bike to buy, road or hybrid cross. I like to ride 8-10 miles a day, in city and then on weekends, go on longer rides of 30-60 miles. I live in Seattle, and there are a lot of hills. I would like a triple crank, and decent components. Anu help would be great. Thanks Mark |
If you are not planning on doing any racing look at the touring bikes for comfort and speed.

When you say hybrid cross, do you mean a hybrid bike, or a cyclo-cross one. CX bikes are thouroughbred, built for racing off-road, but are excellent as general purpose bikes.
A CX, touring , or light-touring bike would all do the job. The performance differences are mainly due to tyre choice. |
I'd get a road bike with no less than 105 level components. The cyclocross idea seems like a good idea if you route takes you over some rough roads or even unpaved roads. Cyclocross bikes are more rugged and a good choice for a MIX of conditions.
My favorite is a Jake the Snake from Kona. However, there are many available now. Check out Redline, LeMond, K2 and Iron Horse to name just a few. L8R |
If I can only own one bike, it'll be a CX bike.

Would like to keep the price under $1000.00 I am big guy, 6.2 235. There are plenty of sales going on in my area, but most of the bikes on sale are not in my size. I was ready to buy the Roubaix, but no go on my size. |
