Hybrid bike

hi guys Li live in Canada Scarborough welll my old bike got stolen and i really liked it so i planned on getting a new bike.By doing alot of research and stuff i figured that a normal walmart bike wouldent suit my needs. Now lets head to my needs.

MY needs
  • im 5.6 feet so i need a fairly large bike
  • i need the tires to be a bit fat cause it looks cooler
  • i go into the forest alot with my friends alot and we jump off tree stumps so i need a bike that can handle that so thats why i planned on getting a hybrid also if not hybrid a race bike which will handel those needs and a fat tire
  • i need the brakes to be good
  • and i want a cool looking bike
  • and i will probaly ride my bike to school which normally takes 1 hour with walking
  • it needs to be a fast bike
  • also my budget is 500 dollars maybe a little more but no more than 600 dollars canadian
  • NO EBAY ( maybe ebay but from a trusted idiot) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! has to be new or a little used

What i want to know
  • a good lbs in scarborough
  • if i should buy the bike online
  • and wat else i should be looking for in a bike that i havent listed above

so yay thats alll thanks for reading this i might need quick but long answers

PS IM SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS SITE YAY ME!~

Gary Fisher/Trek and Specialized both make a bunch of great hardtail mountain bikes for relatively cheap. I ride an '03 GF Marlin and I really like it.

this is the bike i have, its serving me pretty well https://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/model/wingra... although I kinda wish I had gotten a road bike since I don't go off-road. Also look at the Trek FX kine of bikes https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes..._path/fx/72fx/ ... almost the same specs as mine... the other posts are probably better informed though, a mtb might suit you better..

Differences between a hybrid and mountain bike:
hybrid has 700c/29" tires
mountain bike has 26" tires
Suspension is on some hybrids, not on the ones I listed though.
Hardtail Mountain bike has no rear suspension but has front suspension (probably better to have suspension if you're gonna be doing jumps)

I assume school is ~4 miles way? Riding a bmx for 4 miles is no fun. I agree with the others that you should get a hardtail MTB. You should go to LBS's and ask to test ride some in your price range. You might want to go to the Eastern Canada forum to ask about LBS's in your area. To be honest, at your price range, its all pretty low-end and similar, so just get the one you liked riding the most.

For specific comparisons you might want to ask the moutain bike forum. Personally, I am not a mountain bike guy, I don't know much about suspensions or disk breaks. But I bet they will tell you what I am telling you: they are all pretty much the same in quality, buy what you like.

Or, look at it this way:
here is a the kona cinder:
https://www.konaworld.com/08_cindercone_w.htm
here is the kona blast which is the next model down from the cinder:
https://www.konaworld.com/08_blast_w.htm

Its $150 cheaper. What does the cinder give you to justify the extra $150?
