Plans for Memorial Day weekend with or without the bicycle?

Gas is $4.00 or more in most places. Still, AAA predicts roads to be crowded.

How about you? Is the price of gas influencing your travel plans this weekend? Staying home, staying closer to home, or going somewhere by bicycle?

Going to our house on Cape Cod, but in order to save on gas, we will stay for 10 days rather than just the weekend. Bikes will be with us and plenty of riding (and beaching) is in store. Also some grilling shall surely be in order.

Have a great Memorial Day and please remember those who paid the price for all of the freedoms we enjoy.

For us, holiday weekends are for relaxing, riding and getting things done around the homestead, so gas prices make little difference.

I will be working, and bike commuting. Just another Sunday and Monday for me.

Bad Poll! No "none of the above" :twitchy:

No travel plans so gas price is not an issue. Already went to NYC at the beginning of the month for Bike New York.
Biking Saturday and probably Sunday. Just like any other weekend, except I'll avoid downtown DC (too many holiday events.)
Working Monday but plan to bike in.

I have a century planned. We have a family reunion in Greeley each year. It is god awfully boring. To liven things up I ride the 50 miles there and back. Gas prices have no effect on our weekend plans. My wife is still driving like last year and I am still riding like last year.

Well, I am mixing it up. I am driving to Tortilla Flat and riding my Mountain bike to Roosevelt lake and back. A cool 59 miles with a stop at Apache lake marina for water. Temps should be in the 80's which is good for this time of year near Phoenix.

Amen.

And everyone be safe out there.

Getting over a nasty case of bronchitis. No riding is possible. My lungs weigh 10 lbs. apiece & burn.

I promised to take my nephew to the swapmeet to hunt bike parts. Kid uses his bike for his only transport.

I was going to go riding this weekend, but there is so much smoke in the air from the S.Cruz Mtn. fire that it's out of the question. Bummer. bk

My long weekend was last weekend ... Victoria Day weekend.

I stayed home because I was working all weekend.

Driving to friend's place for barbeque... as much fun as it sounds, I am NOT biking 40 miles each way.

Why not? Sounds like it would make for a great day ... in fact, you could make a century out of it.

I ride a mtb right now, don't have a road bike yet. Plus this friend is cute, personally not in my interest to show up fainting on her lawn.

But then she could help you recooperate an massage those legs of yours

So? I've done several centuries on my mtn bike ... it's doable! You'll impress your friend.

Hanging around Point Loma. I'll do some driving around town and weather permitting, I'll do lots of cycling.

Bionicycle 05-24-08 09:47 AM

No travel this weekend; gas prices would be a consideration, but the fact that my wife has to work all weekend is the big travel plans killer.

Sat… I plan to do some yard work, work on my bicycle and hopefully do some riding…we will see how that all works out.
Sun… Up early to watch the Formula 1 race in Monaco… Later going to an old friends house to watch the Indianapolis 500... Then home to have a pleasant cookout with the wife after she gets home from work… NO, I won’t be watching the NASCAR 600.
Mon… hopefully get some more stuff done around the house before the T-storms we are forecasted to get move in.

Wordbiker 05-24-08 10:29 AM

I was considering heading to the Iron Horse Classic in Durango...at least until I read the schedule and realized I'd have to leave the house at 5:30AM to find a place to park and get close enough to watch the start. Saving the cost of food and $35 in gas was also a factor.

It should be a busy weekend for the shop anyway. I'll head over to the local Fiber Festival on Sunday and do some research for secret bike projects. That's about it for my weekend.

DataJunkie 05-25-08 12:19 AM

I believe the Iron Horse Classic is canceled due to weather issues. First time in the race history.
