Tall Guy needs a Cool Cruiser
We have friend who is just getting into biking around after moving to the country from NYC. He needs a cool cruiser for his birthday! We're looking at Electra bikes, but they look like one size fits all. And he is 6'3" and has a 36 inch inseam. Would he fit? Any other cruiser/townie bike suggestions? Thanks!

You may have to do some hard digging as I have not found a lot of information on cruisers. Try the classic forum. How much did you want to spend? Check these Schwinn's out. I like the Cid/Nancy and Coffee/Cream

Have you looked at the cruisers from Raleigh, Trek, Felt and Giant? I've ridden the Giant Simple 7 - very classy looking and feels solid but not too heavy. It only comes in one size fits most though. Check out the Felt cruisers, very cool looking.

Here is an article about the Firmstrong Chief beach cruiser. It's frame is for taller (6' and up) riders and it was concluded to be an excellent bike for the price.

He should be able to fit very comfortably on an Electra Townie. He just might need a longer seat post.

I've seen these bikes online, but not in person. They are available with larger frames, but I don't know anything about the quality, etc. Anyway, link is here:
http://www.islandsportshop.com/Caloi.htm Click on the "Men's Pan AM Stl Frm" at left, that bike is available in a large frame. Also, I think the Ultra and Ultra Cruz are available in a large frame. Unfortunately, a lot of the classic cruisers of old were in a one-size-fits-all and that size was "small", meaning it fit teen-age boys just fine. A lot of the newer cruisers fiddle with the traditional geometry, but they can't get away from that low-seat idea. It looks cool on the bike, just you don't want to ride it that way. |
stay away from trek,I have one and nothing but problems.
