What does "Comp" mean?

Hello all, I recently purchased a Specialized Allez "Comp", but I don't know what comp means. Can someone help me here? Thanks, Jim

Means "Competition", denoting the level of riding category. Theres Pro, Expert, Competition, Enthusists, Entry level.
Can correspond to the grade of components also. i.e. Record with Pro, Chorus with expert, Centaur with comp, etc.

:)

It can also mean composite, composition or complaint.

However, in your case it's meaningless. I pay no attention to stupid names added to the end of bikes.

That said, the Allez Comp is a pretty nice ride.

Basically, it means it has "features" that a non "Comp" bike of the SAME BRAND & MODEL doesn't have.
Such "features" may or may not be desirable for your use.
Example: you may NOT want skinnier tires or seat etc.

You would have to compare your bike to the other Specialized Allez models of the same year.

Thanks guy's your answers are appreciated. My bike ia a 2005 model and has the Ultegra group. That feature might be the reason it is a "Comp". Regards, Jim

Eh, I thought it meant compact... compact crank? Esp with specialized they have a "triple" version and a "comp" version of the same bike..

I got some Specialized Comp gloves that are, overall, thinner and lighter, and they don't have a velcro closure.

I know that one's wrong. In fact I kind of think that comp means costs more.

Cyclaholic 06-29-08 10:11 PM

'Comp' is short for 'compound interest', a marketing ploy to sell more bikes to accountants and financiers.

Usually means you spent too much, but didnt spend enough. Weird, huh?

Wordbiker 06-29-08 11:33 PM

Elite, Comp, Expert and Pro are all very common model designations for Specialized bicycles.

The terms don't mean anything by themselves but are used to differentiate between the component specs of models such as Allez Elite, Allez Comp, etc.

Compensation? For the extra $200-$500 it costs you for decal?

COMP = Compromise

What you have to do when you tell your wife you want the ALLEZ PRO and she thinks you need the ALLEZ base model.
