Gore Activent fabric?

Gore, maker of Gore-Tex, has a less expensive breathable, "highly water resistant" fabric. Has anyone used any outerwear made of this fabrice? How well does it work? Sierratradingpost.com, one of my favorite sources of good deals, just lowered the price of

GORE ACTIVENT® JACKET and PANTS SET
by SPORTIF USA (For Men and Women)
Men’s sizes S-2XL. Red, bright blue, black or orange.
#42901 Price:$59.95 Reg:$200.00 Save:$140.05

This suit has been $99.95. Is this stuff "highly water resistant" enough to be practical rain gear? Is it breathable enough to wear in cool weather without being a steam bath inside? Any comments would be appreciated.
Regards,
Raymond

Raymond, I found this info on another site:

Highly water resistant: ACTIVENT™ fabric provides meaningful protection from light precipitation and drizzle. Substantially limiting water entry through the fabric greatly reduces the occurrence of wet conductive heat loss from this source. The benefit is greater warmth and comfort. However, Activent™ outerwear is not waterproof. It is not seam sealed and will not provide the necessary level of comfort and protection required of raingear.

Looks like a nice deal, but i doubt it would hold up to any serious rain storm.

Most raingear is only designed to hold up in showers anyway. I guess they just expect us not to go riding in tropical downpours, thunderstorms, flash floods etc.

A person would have to be crazy to ride in weather like that. Oops. Guilty.

Thanks for the info, Joe. Might as well stick with what I have for now.

Just so you know how crazy I am. I was riding from work to university one evening earlier this year which offered torrential rain, an awesome lightning show over the ocean, a sunset to the west (where the storm hadn't quite reached) and numerous rainbows at various times.

If this is crazy, I want nothing to do with normality!
