Commentary Anyone?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone was somewhat knowledgable and could pass on the info, on the topic of how different shaped bicycle frames from oval to aerodynamics would have an effect on the performance pf the bicycle? Thanks for responding |
I doubt very much that the shape of the frame tubing would have any effect
on speed of a cyclist due to the low speed possible with human power. It's very unlikely that a human could go fast enough to compress the air into a shockwave where frame aerodynamics would come into play. |
Faster than 20mph, the shape of a bike and its wheels start making a difference.

I think it's been done...seems like bikes with aero frames are not permitted in bike racing, so it's a moot point.
You do have a big ol' mass of churning legs and pedals and all, so regardless of how aerodydnamic the bike is, you can't improve it too much. |
I believe that the shape of the frame tubes on modern bikes has more effect on ride quality of a given material than aerodynamic efficiency.

Thanks for your response
Thanks for letting me know, I am an avid reader and researcher on various types of cyclings products. I am currently a sales rep for Performance Bike Inc. And sometimes it is like pulling teeth from the guys I work with if I have any questions about the cycling industry. I am glad I joined Bikeforums.com

Tube shape and aerodynamics of a bike go hand and hand. Look at what Cervelo is doing with bicycles and you will see. And yes, aero tubing is allowed in racing.
