Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (under $40) pair of sunglasses that would be good for cycling (aerodynamic) but not dark? Essentially I am looking for a relatively clear set of glasses that will keep the bugs out of my eyes, prevent me from piling into a tree when I get into the shade, and preferrably have some modicum of style.

wiley x makes some good wrap arounds, and they are ballistic rated-you can find them on Ebay, usually military surplus. Gargoyles are ok, too.Both brands have interchangeable lenses as well (gray, clear, and amber, usually) I wear a 3+ year old pair of Oakley XLJ half jackets (interchangeable lenses) so while mine weren't 40.00, ive had them a lot longer than any 40.00 sunglasses Ive owned so it works out.

I get my riding glasses at the larger hardware stores. The ones used by the landscapers. They have sporty/ aerodynamic looks and there are clear lenses and dark reflective lenses. They claim to be shatter-proof and protective for most flying debris.

Check out these. I bought the Torrid model but looks like Nashbar is out of them. Probably the best cheapest sunglasses I have even owned.

My vision is already marginal so I usually spend big bucks on sunglasses to get clear vision. No need to spend the big bucks with these babies.

These will do a great job for you as far as eye protection goes. They are polycarbonate plastic
which means they'll stop rocks/pebbles others won't. I strongly suggest this brand for known
all 'round great safe performance for cheap.:thumb:

My last 2 pairs are not 40.00, but they are only $60.00 and have optics equal to glasses of 3x their price. Things like decentered lenses, etc.

Tifosi Optics, I use the pave model. You can get them in clear, tinted, or photochromatic that change as light changes.

+2 on the Tifosi. Nashbar had them for $40. Interchangeable lenses. I've had mine for about 3 years and use them on the bicycle and motorcycle. I broke the clear lense and needed new temple pads and nose pads and Tifosi sent them to me for FREE. I was impressed.

+1 on Tifosi as well. Have a pair that are about 5-7years old, one of the nose pads fell out and went awol. Contacted them, email pic of my frames, they id'd and sent a pair of nose pads n/c. Guaranteed for life. Verrrrrrrrrrrry impressive.
