Best Place To Sell A Bike

I’m toying with the idea of selling my current road bike and buying a new one. Anyone have an opinion on the best venue to sell (local newspaper, Craigslist, Ebay, flyers at the supermarket or all of the above)? I live in a mid to large metropolitan area and the bike in question is a ’04 Zurich. Of course I’m looking for the best target audience and the least hassle. What has worked the best for anyone here who has sold a bike?

I would say CL. "Bike people" like us usually look on there every day for new deals. Plus it's free!

CL is pretty risky. Accept only cash (no checks, especially cashier's checks or money orders -- lots of those forged ground around), and meet in a public location, preferably bring 1-2 buds with you. Of course, bring proof you own the bike so the buyer knows that the bike's owner was the person he/she bought from, rather than it being someone who used a easily broken cable lock a couple days earlier.

I rebuild/refurbish bikes regularly and always sell them on craigslist. Never had a problem. Cash is always a good idea...

I don't do it anymore, but when I sold a few bikes on CL I used to meet them in a public place, usually the fast restaurant parking lot on the corner. If they wanted to test ride, I'd ask them for id.

eBay will give you national coverage which might be an advantage if it is a high $ bike. Cl = no shipping hassles and costs. If there is a cycling club you might find a knowledgable person to sell to. Talk to a LBS.
